Valve cover wont clear. Cant find anything searching
ok so ive got some AFR 180s and comp pro mags. The driver side fits fine with clearancing.
i cannot get the passenger side to clear and am having a tough time with figuring out what is hanging it up. what all do i need to clearance on the stock covers? do i need to cut out part of the baffle? is that whats hanging? its my only guess since its the only different thing really.
not hitting the oil fill spot and not appearing to hit the dent where the alternator is. Do you guys grind on this? bend it? i can not for the life of me find a write up. I found several but they are all taken down. any help is appreciated!
thanks

uhhh. bout to just order cantons. this is ridiculous lol tried 2 different stock trimmed valve covers and they both hit. im maybe now thinking its the rocker nuts sitting too high?? that common with pro mags

I have GM heads, maybe the AFR's are different
maybe try putting a dab of mechanics witness marker/paint on the baffle edges and/or poly lock tops and oil fill area to see wtf it is hitting
if they fit one side they should fit the other.

well after some more cutting of the baffle i still cannot get that mother fr to fit! i have a set of chrome valve covers that i despise. Look exactly like stock but are chrome. insides are the same as stock even. bracing is same, one difference the baffle! so i modified the bracing and guess what.
chrome valve cover slides on no problems. its gotta be the baffle from that fresh air tube. im gonna trim the **** out of it on the stock cover and then see if that works. chrome one is on for now and sealed so i can actually drive. i may just say f it and buy the cantons anyway. i honestly dont want them though.. id like a nice black cover but no one has anything to clear the alt.

I bought cheap/generic fab'd aluminum covers off ebay ages ago. These things had no baffles inside just the four tubes for the center bolts. Had no issues clearing any of the valve train. You can note from the first pic (on motor) that the passenger side wasn't notched for the alternator. We had to cut and re-weld that corner in order to clear. I think any LT1 specific cover (like the canton) is already notched to clear the stock alternator bracket/location.
You can kind of make out here where the front passenger side cover was re-formed. On the bottom it was welded a little further back on the base and then sloped back on an angle towards the top.
