Default Build #3: Snowball effect. Finally complete.

Brief background:
Five years ago I put together a head/cam setup utilizing valve springs that had been on the car for years. Had wicked valve float and the car just never pulled hard up top, it nosed over after ~6300rpm. The car was enjoyed but fixing the problem was put low on the priority list.

Enter the snow ball affect:
After years, I finally decided to fix the problem(replacing the slap worn out 918 springs with a set of Brian Tooleys)...until I found a bigger problem. The very first spring I removed the valve guide was garbage. I could physically wiggle the valve around.

Fearing the problem would only grow in number, and agitated at the situation, the solution was only logical. Drop the motor, send the heads to Phil at Advanced Inductions, and have him get them squared away.

During the time I had the motor apart and Phil had the heads, along with the benefit of now being employed by one of the best LS tuners in the nation, I decided to bite the bullet and go ahead with the 24X conversion.

Now on to a lot of wiring.

Hibernation occurs next, I got married.

Finally back at it, completion is in the horizon.

Once together, more changes occurred. During the interim, I ended up snapping my 4.10s carrier and wound up throwing another 10 bolt in with a set of 3.73s. I also decided to try my hand at mocking up a LS1 lid setup. It came out quite nicely but I still have to dress it with final touches.

After roughly a year, the car hit the rollers for the final time this past week. Put down 422hp and 395tq. I can finally say I'm satisfied (for the time being) with the 'ol LT1...

Yessir. 355ci. It's on EFI Connection's website, under the LT1 section. Slightly pricy but I didn't want to have to worry about finding a 96/97 cover, plugging the WP hole, clearance it for a double roller, and then coating it. I figured I'd have roughly the same amount in it.

Way to stick to your guns. Nine times out of nine that kills a project dead before the idea can even be muttered.

I'm lucky in that aspect, she's not necessarily a huge fan of car stuff, but she definitely knows how much it means to me.

I wont lie, I debated throwing in the towel and going LS. But I just don't have the capitol and enjoy thrashing the car too much to have another year of down time. haha.

I'm definitely stoked at the 422hp, especially since it's still a 355ci motor with stock casting ported heads.

Great job! It goes to show you what is possible when you use top quality parts (AI and EFI Connection) along with your persistence

Good to see a clean LT1 car throwing down some good power NA on stock casting heads.

Yeah great job on numbers sometimes all the time really pays off. Always sucks to have all that down time without it though.
