Default Hot Cam rockers

Hello All,

Are the rockers that come with the hot cam kit any good?

I have a new hot cam kit I was planning on selling it for about $450

but I was looking a set of Comp cams rockers and they run about $300.00 plus.

So if I can use the rockers from the kit and sell the rest of the stuff I could be ahead.

Or should I sell the kit and buy the Comp cam rockers?

Thanks.

The GM rockers are better quality than comp's, Unless you're getting the stainless comp's. IMO.

They are made by crane for GM. They are very good quality. Only good for a cam up to .575 lift though. So if you plan on having a cam with huge lift they prob wont work. I just bought a set of them for my cam build which will have .544 lift. After researching roller rockers for awhile i decided on the gm rockers.
The hotcam is a proven little street cam it wouldnt be a bad idea to just use the whole kit.

Thanks, I love the way it sounds when I see the clips on youtube, but all I read is that is old technology and its outdated.

Def not outdated. GM put lots of research into developing that cam to make sure it makes nice power, good emissions, reliability. Some of these newer cam lobe designs might make more power but they are harder on the valvetrain components. For a street car the hotcam is nice. I went with a cc305 which is an old design but proven to get a cam only lt1 into the 12s and the lobes arent super aggressive so im hoping it will get some miles under its belt without destroying the valvetrain. I wouldnt hesitate to go with a hotcam. Its a really good cam and i believe it is billet steel not cast.

My other concern with the kit its the valves springs, I read that they are not good enough for the heavier Lt1 valves.

Am building a street/strip car, shooting for a 11-12 second car I don't think the Hot cam kit is going to get me anywhere near.

Hotcam with ported heads should get low 12s. I agree about the springs if your going to rev past 6000rpm. I have read only good things about PAC springs, that is what im going with in my cam install. 11s need a slightly radical build, skip drivability. I would be happy with 12s and good street manners.

These are good springs for the hot cam, http://www.alexsparts.com/lt1-valve-...s-spring-base/ call them and see when they will be available. he might have them in stock and not updated the website. If you plan on a bigger cam later then I would recommend contacting Lloyd Elliot for some Lunati springs.

^^^this

I got my Lunati springs from Lloyd. VERY nice spring kit

yeah the "hot cam" kit springs are weak for the heavier LT1 valves for anything other than a stock cam only...and not really a upgrade for a stock cam

Yes,

Am planning on getting the LE2 package from Lloyd.

I guess I have to wait to find out what cam am going with to see if the rockers from the Hot Cam kit will work. Must likely not.

I have no problems spending the cash on a good set of rockers.

LE cams are generally around 5.6x or 5.7x in lift at the very least. If that is beyond the Crane (hot cam kit) ones you can certainly sell the whole kit and use $ towards a set of Comp Ultra's

The only gripe I have with the hotcam rockers are they are self aligning. I like the added insurance of NSA rockers, and if you shift that hotcam at 6500 where you should, you should consider NSA rockers as well.

so if going NSA RR, I would, Check out the ISKY adjustable guide plates. I find they allow you to get each RR dead nuts aligned L-R on the valve tip vs one piece guide plates on the LT1 heads

You will also need hardened PR. I went with the .080 thick wall ones. Trick Flow or Comp are good.

Also suggest going 7/16" ARP RR studs and buy 7/16" RR vs 3/8".

Pic of my ISKY guide plates and Lunati springs installed at 1.780"
