Default LS1 airlid on LT1

Hey guys, I was just wondering if its possible to run an LS1 style air intake on an LT1? I was thinking that I could use the SLP cold air (ram air type) package, and an aftermarket LS1 lid and filter... It would seem like this would be beneficial, because of the cold air, revised air lid, and larger filter... So is this doable? and is it worth the work? Or should i just stick with the LT1 cold air intake or an SS style hood? thanks for any help, guys... Im kinda new to the 4th gen scene.

I'm running one on mine just for a cleaner look with an MTI clear lid. Definitely doable. I don't know that you would gain a lot (any) under 450rwhp N/A.

yea, also is it possible to run it upside down if you have an WS6 hood? I really want an intake that doesn't go to the side since it looks a hell of a lot cleaner but the dam WS6 box's are atleast $200. Surely there is something else

Not much involved. I have a WS.6 so I just took off the factory ram air box and put the ls1 system on. I was actually losing ~6rwhp on back to back dyno pulls with the ram air box over an LS1 lid so that is the reason I switched. The only thing that is required is an ls1 lower airbox/radiator shroud, an ls1 lid and a rubber coupler for MAF to TB. I don't have any new pics of my setup but I can show you of one similar. I'm using the smaller Z28/SS/Trans Am lower airbox. The factory WS.6 airbox is taller and I'm not sure if it will fit under an LT1 WS.6 hood.

No redrilling and the fit is perfect. The bolt holes are already there and tapped. You need an aftermarket hood as far as I know to make it fit but I don't have a stock hood so I wouldn't know for sure. I paid $30 for the lower piece off ebay, then the price of a lid. The coupler is an LT1 WS6 coupler in the pic, but you can use a fernco coupler also.

Glad I could help.

Thanks, man. I think I'm gonna give it a shot. I wont be trying it anytime soon, since the car is torn apart right now... if anyone has success fitting this under a stock hood, please let me know. Thanks for your help.

I wonder if this would work with a pin on 4" cowl hood?
I do not have any of the bracketry for the front part of the hood on the car now.

I know it won't work with a stock hood. I have an aftermarket ram air hood and I tried this and it didn't work. Needed like another 1" to 1 1/2" of clearence. I would say an LT1 WS6 hood will be all that fits.

I believe the Ultra-z hood from SLP will work also. That one might also clear the larger WS6 airbox as well due to the height of the hood in front. Good luck.

im working on one for my car, just to see if its better then my slp.
i have the harwood ram air(not funtional) hood and as of right now the ls1 box doesnt clear it. im going to modify the box alittle, i want all the air to be coming from the radiator area. i'll probably end of hacking up the box so its sits lower... now i just need to do it with out it looking getto

I bet the VFN hood I got would not allow enough room at the front as I was hoping, now we got plenty of room on up....
