Default changing to sythetic

Well my car is do for an oil change again and as far as I know the only oil thats ever been put in it is regular motor oil. Will there be any differences or dangers if I start using a synthetic oil with 99k on the clock?

I've heard(but have no proof) sythentic isn't as good for the seals, and changing from regular to sythentic after such a long time might cause leaks, but its probably not true. Otherwise Ive never heard of anything wrong from changing over.

If you have a leak, it will be more profound with synthetics because it doesn't sludge up. Basically, a leak with conventionals will be greatly reduced because the sludging effect will in a way seal it off. I put synthetic oil in my Ram with 143,000 miles on it and it is doing fine.

My opinion is not to do it. As long as you do regular oil changes every 3,000 miles there really isn't a reason to change over. Staying consistant with your oil changes will improve the longevity of your engine.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic

I always used Valvoline but the previous owner used Mobil 1 and there is no going back.

Synthetic oil has better lubrication and is just as thick as other non synthetic oils.
10W30 Synthetic is the exact same as Normal 10W30, it isnt any lighter, or thicker or whatever, or it wouldn't be 10W30. I seen a special on this on HOTROD T.v.

I love the Mobil 1, its a better oil for a High Performance engine.

I'll be switching from castrol syntech to royal purple next oil change. Every thing I ever read on synthetic oil stated nothing bad would happen from switching over to synthetic, because I wondered about the same thing for a while. Only thing I have ever seen is that they recommend you don't use synthetic when breaking a new engine in.

I think the only reason for that is because due to the nature of break in procedures (purging wear metals and changing the oil frequently for the first few thousand miles), is that you would be throwing away a lot of expensive oils. All in all, synthetics are better in that they have better additive packages and don't break down as fast. But is mostly personal preference in my opinion. Just follow the recommended procedure for the oil you choose.

Default Valvoline Syn

Valvoline now makes a syn oil, and my brother (a rabid Mobil 1 user) and I purchased a couple jugs on our last oil change (they were out of M1); his mileage went up by 3 MPG on his 04 GTO; same route, same level of flogging.

Just run it already.... GM does breakins on the stuff, I don't just because the 20mins that it's in the motor is not worth the extra coin. If my customers DIDN'T run M1 that I speced out I wouldn't warranty the dam things. We have used M1 for decades now and when you tear the motors down it is amazing what the insides look like. Switch NOW and run it for 5,000-8,000 miles and you will be fine, just check the oil level.
