Question small cam

What would be a good small cam to run in a 95 Z with just bolt-on, a 2500 stall and 3.42's in the rear

LT4 hotcam, or CC503. But if you want a small one i suggest the hotcam since not much modding needs to be done to allow the car to still run. However your PCM will need to be re-tuned.

Hot cam is old-school.

The Crane 227 will make more power and still have a stock-like idle. For a long time, the LT1 cam-only record was held by the litle 227 Crane, at 11.3x at 116.x. 210/224-112

If you want something a tad more mild then the LT4 hot cam I have a 480 lift cam duration @.50 is 222/226 center line is 116 8 degrees advance.

Brand new and would sell it for $150 ish.

How does the Crane make more power with it being the smaller cam?

I also recommend the Crane 227, this cam has great low/mid range, great for stock powerband.

I would go with the LT4 Hot Cam Kit if you could afford to spend the extra cash.

The Hot Cam has lazy ramps. Frankly, I'm quite surprised to see how much of a following that cam still has even though it was obsolete tech years ago.

The hotcam may be old school, but from what I hear it makes good power for it's lazy ramps.

There are just alot of better things available. For instance, you could get a Comp cam that's 214/218 that has .565/.536 lift using Extreme lobes. It would make more power and idle much better also. Or, you could get a Comp cam that's 224/236 that has .605/.624 lift and would idle the same, but make more power. Low lift versions are available also if you don't have the room.

That is a lot of lift. You would need a damn good valvetrain for that. I have a 224/236 111 lsa 574/572 lift w 1.6 rockers. I didnt know that duration came with such high lift numbers unless someone were to run 1.7 rockers. Do you know anyone running that cam producing that much lift? Im curious to see what kind of power their making in comparison to me with the lower lift.

Funny thing is. . . that's my cam! 224/236, though I'm running 1.6 intake and 1.52 rockers for .605/.593. Hard to compare to yours, though, since I'm turbocharged. I talked to Cam Motion a while back and they told me that 224 and .605 (1.6) was impossible.
