Default Edelbrock heads-flow numbers after some massaging

Well, I finally got some flow numbers for my heads. I was going to port some stockers, but decided that rather than porting those, I would port the Edelbrocks that were on my car. Heres the results, before and after.

Old numbers
Lift Intake Exhaust
.100 65 53
.200 128 100
.300 182 136
.400 219 154
.450 228 159
.500 231 163
.550 233 166
.600 234 168
.650 234 169
.700 235 171
New numbers
Lift Intake Exhaust
.100 73 56
.200 130 107
.300 187 146
.400 237 174
.450 259 183
.500 278 190

Those look like nice changes. +64 means there was definately work to be done.

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you have wrapped up in the heads all total? Also, has that head porter done any work with stock castings? I ask so we could maybe get a comparison of how much he gets stock heads flowing.

Well, unfortunately I had about 2 grand into the heads before ET Performance got ahold of them(long story, check out my past threads for the history on these heads). This time around I have about 1700 invested in these castings. They do port factory castings, LT1 and LT4. I wanna say their LT1 castings flow in the low 280s, and the LT4's are in the upper 280s. I think it would probably be more worth the money to go with a set of AFR or Trick Flow castings rather than the Edelbrocks, but due to timing/cash, I opted to port the heads that were already on my car.

Sorry, I didnt really answer your question. If I didn't waste the money the first time around, I would have $1050 in the Edelbrock castings, and about $1700 in the porting. So $2750 total, which could probably be spent more wisely, but this is what I had to work with. I am definitely happy with these numbers though, considering I only spent 1700 this time around to get to that point.

Was the bench flow at 4.125 stroke? I think most don't realize that ... they get great flow numbers on the bench ... then when on the car, they don't perform. Great numbers ... the price was eh ... but I am lazy, and know you probably had reasons. I will be spending about that much with AFR 227's and hope to get around 320-330 @ .600.

4.125 stroke? You mean 4.125 BORE fixture, most head porters flow with a 4.125 bore fixture to inflate numbers, when in reality most engine are 4.030 or 4.060 bore.

Flow numbers do not tell the whole story on head power capability, too many variables that change.

That was at a 4.030 bore. I was going to go with either the AFR 210 or 227 heads, but when they started the porting the AFR castings were back ordered with basically no light at the end of the tunnel as to when they would be ready. I was looking at 6 weeks if the first set of heads went to me, or I think they said 10 plus weeks if I did not receive the first set. Basically I already spent the money on the edelbrock heads(the older thread explains this), so my plan was, for the time(plan on running AFR's next summer), to scrap the edelbrock heads and just port some factory castings, so I brought ET some factory castings as well as the edelbrocks(with no intention of porting the edelbrocks, just to get flow numbers so I could sell them), and since there was much more material to work with on the edelbrocks, they decided to port them rather than the stockers, so I sold them the stockers and here I am with flow numbers on the edelbrocks. I definitely feel that the AFRs would have been a much better way to go, but given the circumstances, I decided to go with the edelbrocks, which I guess well see how the car performs once they are installed.
