Lot of LS1s seem to be dyno queens that can put big numbers to the ground but just don't run like the dyno numbers seem to indicate they should. They seem to MPH well without an ET to match too.
I have experianced a similar sort of thing even with my whale of a car.
One of the locals who seems to be most impressed with my car has a heads/cam LS1, lot more aggressive than my motor has dyno'd I think a little over 420rwhp, 1000lbs lighter and has only gone .1 and 5mph faster. Nice car, 11s NA is impressive but with more HP and so much less weight I would have expected better even on the MPH which is clearly showing ET left in a hard launch.
Back when I was making 100rwhp+ less power and running on street tires I would walk LS1s past the 1/8th then they would come wailing up on me even if we crossed the line about the same time they would have several MPH on me.
I would guess it is an average power thing as well as in my case the b-body chassis launches well. Don't know exactly what my car makes but others place the guesses at 390-410rwhp based on weight/mph, I think it peaks down around 6100rpms though, broad rpm power will beat an peak number in a street car.
An all out race car can be made to work and keep the engine in a 1500rpm window or so and make use of a big peak number. The compromises made in a street/strip car though mean average power is king.

my buddy with his ls1 camaro swears my car feels faster but i think his seems to have more tug on the top end and he has his knock sensor out right now. but he is amazed by the way it can go from a dead stop better than his. im convinced it is the low end torque that makes him think my lt1 is faster

It isn't power it is how you use it. I went with the old cc306 which most people don't like But I wasn't worried about losing torque when I have a 3600 stall. But I have raced a LS1 with a big cam and he makes more power. But I pull 1.5's in the 60 foot and he was lucky to get a 1.8. But when he came off the line with a 6 speed he was bogging it. I was flashing my stall to 4200+ and dead hooking. Needless to say on the motor I'm still quicker. On the bottle it isn't even a race.

The best thing about LT1s that they start making horsepower sooner than LS1s which i really like,i have the cc305 in my car & its really Kicking asses,i wonder if i had cc306 or the Gm847 is it going to be soo much better?
