Default Silly idea...

If someone was to run a DIS and dry sump oil system, could they use an LS1 cam? Not that I plan to, but the idea just popped into my head as to why the LS1 cam doesn't work in our motors: no oil drive gear.

Yea, I know

Different firing order? They are not the same.

The reason nobody runs LS1 cams is because the bearing journals are too big: 55mm's for the LSx's vs. 48mm for the Gen I & II stuff. Even if you were able to bore out the cam tunnel to 55mm's to make the LSx cam fit, rotating assembly clearances would become a serious problem. I think if you did you could probably rule out ever running anything bigger than a 3.48 stroke crank.

All the other issues: firing order, distributor drive, etc. are secondary concerns but could be worked around.
