Default which head bolts need thread sealant??

Ok - here is my stupid question of the month....I was on a lot of cold medicine today and decided it was a good time to install my heads....- using ARP bolts -- oiled up all the bolts and then, through the Theraflu haze, remembered that the bolts required thread sealant on these motors..... - my Chiltons manual is sort of vague - do all the head bolts need to have sealant put on the threads or only the bolts that go under the valve cover? (i am just trying to determine how many bolts I have to clean and install correctly....).

Is it bolts that need the sealant or studs???? Or do both need sealant? Along for the ride here also.

Yeah use it on all head bolts.. I just used plain old black silicone on them, and it worked perfect.

Good luck with the ARP stuff. I haven't had it work in 1 application yet. It leaked on nitrous fittings, the intake manifold bolts, head bolts, waterpump bolts, rocker studs, ect. I only use permatex #2 from now on.

I did heads/cam back in 2005 and used ARP head bolts along w/ thread sealant that came with it. Never had any issues. Remember to torque them accordingly.
