Oil Pump Choice

Oil Pump Choice
I've been running a Melling 55HV for 10,000 miles with no problems. Going back with a fresh pump though. (changing my setup) Thinking of this pump. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Anyone running it? A 7 qt pan will also be bolted on. Gonna be spining this engine 6500+ rpm.

Yeah thats warm..its a lil less than 40 when its cold...No prob with high rpm operation..its been all the way to the 5800 rpm redline several times when we tuned it (142 mph on the dyno)..and a few times on the street and no problems with the pressure dropping at all..the clearances are the stock clearances that GM recommends..I just remember we mic checked them when we built it and everything was within tolerances..

I use that oil pump in all of my LT1 motors, (standard), unless a customer can spend for at Titan gerotor.
It is an awesome value. Smooth 11 teeth (I think) gear operation and nice steel shaft supplied and a pickup that fits the stock LT1 oil pan. All that for $55 bucks shipped to you door from Summit.
The thing that messes with oil pressure, (no matter what pump---sv or hv---), is lack of windage control. The stock tray is very good at windage control.
that BBC oil pump (the M99HVS) really puts out some pressure. It will rob the motor of some power but I rev my stock bottom end to 6800 shift points, (and on the 7000rpm PCM limit sometimes) so I want pressure to my bearings.

OH! Add edit: Trim away a small part of your stock windage to fit around the bigger oil pump body. Please don't delete the windage tray.
