Default Transmission purchase input

I am thinking about pulling my perfectly fine stock T56 and installing one that I came across on another forum. The seller says that is has the following:

-G-force main shaft
-Steal 3-4 fork
-Bronze fork pads
-Billet keys

It was built by Joe from Six Speeds Inc.

What do you trans. guys think this thing can hold power wise? and for the right price, do you think it's worth buying and selling my stock trans. vs. building my own?

The biggest upgrade in that unit is the mainshaft. Its probably a good unit but with that company and their reputation, who the hell really knows. I would absolutely check the mainshaft to verify its a GForce shaft. It will say on the rear of the shaft near the splines.

Good point. I'll see if he can shoot me a pic of the shaft ID.

Do you have a rough estimate of what kind of power it can hold? I saw an old post where Joe was selling one like it and said it's good to 850rw.

I agree, I don't care for him or the company but it may be a good snag if we agree on a price.

850rwhp is a pretty generous rating on a transmission design that usually starts to have input and cluster failures issues around 700-750rwhp. The weight of the car eats up the power holding capacity of these transmissions pretty quickly. In a heavy car you will see them failing around 550-600ftlbs of torque. In lighter cars like corvettes I've seen them live at over 750ftlbs.

I would take that trans as an average built unit with an upgraded mainshaft (IF it is actually a G-force shaft) and pay accordingly. At full blown retail there is about $400 in upgrades without the shaft, $1200 with the shaft.

Hope it all works out for you.

Its hard to put an exact number on it but I would say 750-850 is about right. The biggest issue in the unit now that the shaft has been replaced is keeping the gears lubricated under heavy acceleration in high powered cars.

Thanks for your imput guys, it's much appreciated.
The trans would likely never see wheel hop because my stock T56 has held 750rw for a couple years, but I don't dog it or anything.

Keeping those upgrades in mind and noting that it is used for a claimed 1,500 miles, what would you guys pay for it?

If the unit is in top notch shape with low miles, I'd say between $1600-$2000 for it. C5 stuff doesn't bring the money F body unit do because they only fit the Vette. You should be able to sell your unit for $500-$800 if its in good shape.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to ****** up the trans and hope for the best. I'm buying it from what seems to be a reputable shop, so we will see.
