Default MN12..where can I find a different gear set? Looking for longer gears?...

My MN12 winds out like crazy in 1-3 and thats not exactly the best thing for a turbo setup. Is there any way I can change the gear ratios to lengthen those gears? My brothers Z06 has the longest gears..(not fair)

As far as I know, there are (2) gear sets available:
2.97, 2.07, 1.43, 1.00, .080, 0.62, and the other "common" one is 2.66, 1.78, 1.31, 1.00, 0.74, 0.50. Some of the 2.97 geared trannys had a 0.56 6th. But in a nutshell those are the two gear sets available. If you want to do it the easy way, jsut change the rearend gears. Otherwise, I might be able to help you by swapping your trans out for a built one with the gears you want.

What would that cost me? And what are the stock gears that come in an MN12? My brothers 1st gear goes to 60..that would be nice..2nd goes to 90.

Dude, this kinda went over your head. The 12 has the aggressive gears on purpose. Changing them out would be dumb IMO. Just sell it and get the T56 with the regular gears. That would be the one that came in an f-body. Or, change you rear gears and you can make first go to whatever you want, basically. So you need to figure out which is more cost effective for you, a tranny swap or a rear gear swap. The 12 is more desirable as you can see you will get people hounding you to sell it to them.

Well swapping gears in a 350z isnt like swapping in an Fbody. The gears alone are 1200$ plus install parts. It would be cheaper to buy a used Fbody transmission. And it didn't really go over my head. I want to rebuild my own transmission next year which I plan on doing so while im in there I might as well get rid of the **** gears that are in there.

I actually have done gears in a 350Z and it's probably the most simple, easy install I've ever done. My customer purchased the gears and brought them in. He said he paid 600-700 for the gears/install kit, and they were OEM. IIRC, they were 3.91s.

Well doing the math right now my car.. (I keep the redline at 6800 to help the built engine last a little longer.

As it sits my car with this trans, my 3.54 rear end and the 295/40s shifts at these MPHs 1-6: 1st 53 2nd 75 3rd 109 4th 156 5th 195 6th 252

If I switch the gears and the diff to a 3.3 it would be as follows:

63 94 128 167 226 335

If I add my 28" tall drag radials that are sitting it would then go to

65 97 132 173 234 346

Seems like switching trans gears, the rear diff and adding 28" tall tires would make this thing a streetbike on the road. I think im going to go for it.

With a turbo, you'd definitely be better off with the 2.66 gearset. I don't know if the 2.29 gears (ZR-1 only at the moment AFAIK) would be overkill.

Thats all at a 6800rpm redline. The engine is built and could take 7200 easily..that would be just about or over 70mph in first gear which would be good enough for me haha. But it seems well worth it to me to do a gear swap. I think it would REALLY help on the street. First and second gear hit rev limiter instantly and third sucks. I really have to get the car into 4th to really get it going.

How much would something like that run me? It needs to have the GTO tail shaft since its the correct position and I have a 500$ pro billet shifter that id like to keep.
