Default T-56 shifter rattle

What would cause the shifter on my T-56 to rattle like crazy? It only happens at highway speeds 75-85mph!!! I have a B&M ripper shifter, it's about 1 1/2 years old. Can shifters wear out?

I would take a look at the nylon bushing-socket, where it meets the lever. Might be worn out.

I would check the positive shift stops...if they are too close to the shaft, they will cause it to vibrate like crazy.

I checked them this evening, it looks like they were to close and actually caused alot of wear on the shifter stick!!! DAMN It wore away quite a bit of metal!!! I'm going to try my buddy's hurst shifter tonight to see if that will make a difference!

I tried my buddy's Hurst Gold shifter last night and "HOLY CRAP" what a difference!!! No vibration at all. Even getting up to about 125mph. I did feel a difference in the shifting compared to my B&M Ripper. The Hurst felt a little more -stockish-. I guess I'm just use to my Ripper. My shifter is trash because of the positive stops being to close to the shaft. Well, its time to get a new one. Thanks for the help

Wow my first post!

Hey, I'm new into cars with powertrain direct mounted shifters, been mainly front wheel drive till now.

I just bought a 1998 Formula LS1- 6 Speed Trans, and i have some rattles as well. The guy I bought it from installed a Hurst Short shifter. I was going to check to see and then adjust the possitive stops as writen above, but I really don't know what I'm looking for once i get everything apart. Or do i not need to take everything apart, just the console? I'm sorry if there is an obvious answer to this question, I tried to do a search.

Thanks Guys!
