Default High HP Clutch Poll!

Im going turbo looking to make over 600rwhp and cant decide between: Centerforce Dal Friction clutch
Spec Stage 5
Spec 3+
From what ive read the stage 5 will hold the power but is noisy, the Spec 3+ SAYS itll hold the power of the stage 5 but with the drivability of the Stage 3 and the Centerfore Dual friction clutch looks good but i havent heard much about it.Please vote and give some reasoning, as im set on picking 1 of these 3.Thanks josh

I had a lot of luck with a Ram clutch that the Stenod guys specced out a few years back. It wasn't a standard LS1 ram, though, it was some T56 stuff from other vehicles. Maybe they can chime in as to what it was. I never made over 500 (made 460 on a mustang dyno), but I never had a problem with it in 30,000 miles of hard driving either.

I have a mcleod sintered on a SSG flywheel in the DSM... Its tough running high power thru a 8" diameter disk into an AWD system....

The flywheel being SFI approved is important. Flywheel explosions suck *** and could really hurt you on a RWD car...

If there were a mcleod dual disk for my car as cheap as the LS1 I'd have it.. I drove a Mcloed dual disk F-body.... Kicks major ***....

The camaro will be getting one. The truck is going to be an auto....

Yes you could because that's probably how many spec clutches it will take you to realize you should have bought a McLeod street twin in the first place.

But my vote is for the RPS unit. That's what I'm running.

McLeod vote here. Twin disc going into my car. $1200 isnt bad considering you are getting:
McLeod Street Twin Dual-Disk Clutch, Pressure plate, Steel Flywheel & new master cylinder

Add to that an updated slave and pilot bearing and you have yourself a damn near bullet proof clutch setup. I know there are exceptions to the rule with people having issues with almost every brand of clutch, but this clutch is supposably the "best". There is always going to be people bashing one brand from a bad experience or even preference of engagement feel, etc.

I was in the same boat, wanted to go Spec, looked at Ram, but decided on McLeod due to the good reviews it has gotten. I would also recommend Textralia over a Spec due to the high reviews it has gotten. Both the McLeod and the Textralia offer "near stock" pedal feel versus the huge left leg you will get from a Spec 4, 5, or 3 for that matter.

Ultimately it is up to your preference and budget, but I would recommend the McLeod not being biased since I am putting one in my car but since I was in the same boat as you a month ago. Do the McLeod and drive the bullshit out of your car.

Good luck man
Andy

Give Cartek a call , mine was holding fine at 580 rwhp before I swapped for a auto . It's a killer clutch , and the price is right .

I like the SPEC 5.Peddle pressure is stock or even softer than stock and it drives great in traffic.

Mcleod is a 50/50 .I've pulled out a good share of blown up one's.

RPS- I hated it.Lasted 1k miles in my Vette and they didn't stand by there product at all.

South Bend Clutch Feramic FE series... I have seen their diesel truck clutches built just like this take what for many other clutches would be a *** whooping.

They can also build them on a sprung hub..
