Default Tranny Mount Question

hey guys,

after fighting like crazy to get my transmission back in, I started to put the Torque arm mounts back on the transmission.

there are 3 bolts, 2 long ones to hold everything on, and one at the top to hold the two pieces together. well the first few threads on that top bolts are stripped out on the tranny...dunno how

I don't know if there is room to get a tap up there...no way I want to get the tranny back down just to run a tap.

What could I do? Would an after market Torque arm have a different bushing mount that I can use? that doesn't use that top bolt?

I'm also just considering putting a couple of tack welds on the damned thing and calling it a day.

any suggestions?

With the torque arm out of the way, and the trans crossmember dropped, you could probably manage to get a tap up there to chase the threads, but I dunno. What you COULD do is get one of the aftermarket trans crossmembers that relocates the torque arm mount off of the tailshaft...UMI and BMR make ones that do exactly that, that still allow a full length torque arm. Vibration might be an issue with those though...

I'm only sure of two things, death and taxes.

Never hurts to try it though. the weight of the tranny should tip the engine/tranny back enough to get it down to you

i'll give it a try this weekend. I was just afraid to let the tranny hang down too far, didn't know if i'd put too much stress on the motor mounts etc
