Default ls7 or AFter market?

I was sold on the ls7 kit until friday night at the track I saw a ls7 powerd z06 grenade his clutch. He made about 3 passes doing a no water burn out small burn outs nothing major, car would not go into gear,he changed hydro fluids ran his car again made best past of the night 11.5 ran 2 more times 3rd run 1/8 mile BOOM!!! clutch and fluid all over track.I will not be running that much power today but by next Summer i will. I was disappointed 80k car clutch was the weakest link.Has anyone else had problems?whats the most power someone is running on this setup? Should I roll the dice or go after market?

If you know your not makin enough power to hurt it then I would just get it. Then if you do get to that level address the issue as it happens. The LS7 clutch will be the most street friendly if your a daily driver.

Couldnt have said it better myself. I just had a complete rebuild done on my t56. The front shaft was so bad that it in turn ruined my spec3. So I talked to slowhawk and he told me that the spec clutch isnt a good dd clutch. So he advised me to get the LS7. I am making 460 plus at the wheels and he said it shouldnt be a problem, just dont hot lap it at the track.

I would say its sfe to say most would get a new flywheel of the same brand to match whatever clutch they swap to, in most situations anyway. You can always sell the LS2 flywheel also if you upgrade later.

487 plus 55-65 shipping, fredbeans dot com, LS7CLUTCHKIT is the pn.
Add about 200 if you get the master and slave, if you're a 01/02, just get the slave. Drill mod highly recommended. My total was 806 shipped with the hydraulics.

I love mine so far with a hundred miles or so; no shim behind the slave at all, mine is a 98, got the master and slave for a 02, did the drill mod, bled the master again after drill mod during flushing (they both ship full and bled). Pedal pumped a few times after install, now dead center, I didn't have the issue some mentioned of low pedal at first. Holds nice, but I'd say still be nice for first 500 miles. Also... if anything, lighter pedal feel than stock. It's sweet.

As for the vette... stuff happens, 80k or 8k? 8k track miles might kill anything, and driver error can kill anything too. I wouldn't take ONE example of an issue with ONE car as a sign of problems.

Search the threads on LS7 clutch, you'll see a LOT more folks happy than not... in fact, I saw NO complaints at all.

does fred beam have the best price? I have a 02, but the same night at the track after burn out, shifting @ 5500 because i have had problems shifting into 3rd in the past trying something differnt. My clutch stayed on the floor when i was trying to shift from 2-3rd not allowing me to shift gears. With all that said should i still just replace the slave and not the master.and i will be doing the drill mod.after pulling the clutch pedal up it shifts fine now as long as i dont stand up in it!

as far as the vette example, I dont feel that one example makes the ls7 clutch bad.

again anything can happen to any car at the track let it be a $200 yugo or a $1,000,000 bugatti. **** breaks down at the track.

Also there is another thread stating that certain ls2 and ls7 vettes had poorly machined flywheels. Maybe the guy in the vette that nuked his, had that bad flywheel. Who knows.

I know that I have 100,000 miles on my factory ls6 clutch in my 01 z28. That clutch has seen many track passes, autoX and street races. My 01 z28 dynos 350rwhp and 360 rwtq with bolt-ons. most launches at the track involved clutch slipping too, for a better take off. If and when this clutch ever does go, I will buy the ls7 clutch based of the testiment and abuse my ls6 clutch has suffered.

Once my car is making 600+rwhp then I will buy a mcloed.

again it really matters if you know how to drive a manual or not, and many people think they do when they dont!
