I have the scissor jack. Great except you need to raise the car 6" higher if you want to get an A4 out from under the car. This jack adds alot of height even when it is all the way down.

A normal jack should work fine with a good balance and a friend, my old V6 tranny was only 2xx pounds, if not a little less then that. I would assume that the V8 tranny be in the 3xx pounds.

I did it with a regular floor jack and a few short 2X4 cutoffs.
It is a t-56 so it was very light. Just over 100 pounds (Dry).
Only bad part was getting it lined up to go back in. Takes a lot of patience and that is something I lack.

get yourself some long bolts, cut the heads off and screw them into the block to get the input shaft out of the pilot bearing, use a floor jack to lift it up, remove the studs and lower, that is what ive always done. hope this helps.
