Default Need a Transmission Jack

Going to be installing a new clutch.

I would really like to rent a transmission jack if possible.

Anyone have any ideas on where to get one?

Harbor Freight, 59 dollars on sale. Best damn purchase. Only downside is the freaking wing nuts on the angle adjustment kept slipping. Go get two lock washers for .02.

I have the scissor jack. Great except you need to raise the car 6" higher if you want to get an A4 out from under the car. This jack adds alot of height even when it is all the way down.

A normal jack should work fine with a good balance and a friend, my old V6 tranny was only 2xx pounds, if not a little less then that. I would assume that the V8 tranny be in the 3xx pounds.

I bought the HF scissor jack on sale for 50% off $40. The beauty is that you can run it up and down with an impact wrench. The only drawback is that the platform the tranny sits on isn't real stable. Also you do have to jack the car up pretty high.

I did it with a regular floor jack and a few short 2X4 cutoffs.

It is a t-56 so it was very light. Just over 100 pounds (Dry).

Only bad part was getting it lined up to go back in. Takes a lot of patience and that is something I lack.

I bought a floor jack from Walmart at less than $15, cut some 3/4" plywood to support the tranny and bolted it to the Jack. No problems.

get yourself some long bolts, cut the heads off and screw them into the block to get the input shaft out of the pilot bearing, use a floor jack to lift it up, remove the studs and lower, that is what ive always done. hope this helps.

Not sure what you mean?

the input shaft slid right out of the pilot bearing for me.
