Default 6 speed 1st to 4th auto shift question.

My X had a '98 Formula 6 speed. I remember starting in 1st and pulling it back to 2nd and the damn thing would automatically guide you over to 4th. If you got on it in 1st it would go into 2nd no problem. The dealer told us that is what it is supposed to do. Is there something you can disconnect to disable this auto jump to 4th deal???
Thanks!

It's called CAGS. It's basically a Skip-Shift, supposed to help get better gas mileage or some bs. You can buy a resistor for less than a dollar at RadioShack and fix it yourself, or pay $30 bucks for a plugin from SLP and the like to fix it also. Just search for "Skip Shift Eliminator" and it should give you everything you want to know.

I just sold one today! Since I can tune it out with HP Tuners. But here is the cheaper way of getting rid of that. The SLP version is just a bit more neater as you just install it inbetween the to connectors.

Enjoy!

Yup. Get your resistor and your duct tape and your electrical tape out and then do what the link Killer_Bluebird posted says.

Just put a lil more pressure on the throttle and it doesnt skip shift, thats when I had stock gears I noticed it occassionally, with the 4.10's I never hit it. Save the 20$ and your time. Just drive it normal.

i believe your engine must be at a certian temperature and you must be at a certian amount of throttle to engage the skip-shift which forces you to go to fourth. that was the first thing i got rid of on my car it drove me nuts, especially in traffic. i believe i got mine for like $20 at ws6store.com and it only took a few minutes to install. the light still comes on however but i don't mind that.

Strange that I have read about a "dash light" as the '98 Formula had none. Did they add this after '98?

You guys must drive your cars to save gas, because I've had my car over six years and I think I've noticed the skip shift 3 times. Then again, I've been through a couple of transmission and rear ends. I drive it like I stole it.

Or save yourself the money and just unplug it from the trans. I've done that on my last 2 cars. Why spend money when you don't have to? I've never had a light come on either.
