shortest throw?
I'm looking at getting a new shifter/short stick, and was wondering what combo has the absolute shortest throw. i have no brand preferences. I mean, I want this to be SMALL. I know its gay, but I drove a miata at work and the shifter felt exactly like how I want mine lol.

From Afterthought Auto about Lou's Short Stick.
The Short Stick for the stock, factory-installed Hurst shifter and SLP shifter reduces shifter throw by 20%. One model Short Stick is compatible with all three shifters. The rubber grommet is deleted on the handle for these shifters which eliminates the "spongy" feel of the shifters and allows for shorter, quicker and more positive shifting.
The Short Stick for the aftermarket Hurst Competition Plus, Hurst Billet Plus and Pro 5.0 shifter reduces shifter throw by 17%. It has a bend toward the driver (left) of approximately 25 degrees and a bend toward the rear of approximately 5 degrees. It also shortens the handle considerably for better **** position. It is available to accept the stock ****. Available in black finish only.
Now, someone needs to tell us how the Pro 5.0, HCP, and HBP shifter throws compare to the stock Hurst shifter and you will have a complete answer. I just recieved my Pro 5.0 and Lou Short Stick from AfterthoughtAuto and it seems to feel good but understand, my transmission is on a jack and not in the car.

dammit. i have a hurst comp plus and i think a lous short stick (they came with the car) and its still not small enough for my taste. im thinking about cutting the stick even more and rethreading it, but i dont know what i should use to cut it. im interested in trying a pro 5.0 and b&m ripper, but they're too expensive to buy both just to see which i like better.

I had a Pro 5, lou's short stick, and MBA billet alum ****. That was super short. Too short for me, so I took the short stick off, and went back to the Pro 5 stick with 3/4" cut down.
The MBA ***** thread down lower onto the stick than the stock **** which helps shorten the throw. It's barely taller than resting your hand on the bare stick with no ****.

I love my factory Hurst/UMI short stick combo myself. I have driven and felt several other combos and nothing has compared to the feel of it. When I put mine in 2nd gear, the **** is about to touch the console. If it was any shorter, it would hit. I think it's perfect.
Just HOW perfect? Well, a buddy of mine sat in my car and felt of it, and then got home and put his Pro 5.0 up for trade on here so he could get one

You want short I'll show you short
The setup is stock hurst with lou's short stick. Then I took about a 1/4in to 1/2in off the threads(can't remember exactly) then I cut off the bottom bend part and flattened one side then drilled new holes. The bottom of the hurst **** sits on the bolt/nuts that hold the stick to the shifter. The setup is either a hate it or love it. I personally love it but alot of people don't. I can shift gears with a flick of the wrist.

AGREED!!! You will NEVER get it to feel like the smooth "toggle switch" that is the Miata's shifter (actually, I've flipped toggle switches with a longer throw than the Miata shifter!!). As was stated, the closest you will get is a decent short stick handle (or cut down handle on the Pro 5.0) attached to a Pro 5.0, Hurst Billet, or maybe an old Kirban shifter (IF you can find one). Top these off with a "low rise" **** that threads or attaches deep onto the handle and you're good to go.
