Default My neighbor's been keeping a secret...

So I thought I knew my neighbor fairly well over the past 3 or so years he's been here, but I just went over to his house to move a few things in his garage and I finally get to take a closer look at his Corvette. I've seen it out once, and all I saw was him pull it back into his driveway. He's never talked about it but we have talked a bit about my car. So anyway, I'm over in his garage and on the wall is a retired license plate that reads "TOMS ZR 1". No ******* way. So I ask to pull back the cover and sure enough, he's had a cherry red ZR1 sitting under my nose all these years. I don't know any details about it as only his wife was there, but he bought it new and only takes it out a few times a year. I really need to coax him into bringing it out and letting it live! Damn!

Nice! Any idea which year it is?

ZR1s are some of my favorite vettes.

I didn't get a very close look at it, but based on the rims I would venture to guess a '90 or '91. When were the 5-spoke wheels offered?

And yeah, apparently he doesn't trust me. Although I have watched his dog a few times before... It's all a matter of importance though. Heh heh

I beleive the 5-spoke started in '94, considering I've seen '93 ZR1s with the sawblade style (though wider in the rear than the standard sawblades).

That's true. He really isn't very outspoken and also travels a lot. We're in a pretty quiet neighborhood out in the country so I could see him not flaunting it. But in small communities you get to know your neighbors pretty well.

Either way, I'm looking forward to getting to take a closer look at this thing and actually talk to him about it. Never seen an LT5 up close before.

I love ZR1s. I suggest an infiltration and full investigation here. Lets see some pics and find out the mileage on this puppy.

Next time you talk about your car, ease a question about it somewhere in there. =p

Well tomorrow we're having a neighborhood garage sale, and I don't have to work until Monday, so I'm definitely heading over there to investigate. His wife said the battery is dead. I'll gladly donate my optima to him if I can take it out for a spin...

I'll see if he minds me taking some pics of it.

Yeah I know some people with super nice cars but you would never know it untill you really got to know them or walked into the garage.

I've got a friend in Peoria that has a 91 ZR1, purchased it new, put knock off rims and tires on it and drives it around alot. Yet theres only 8,900 miles on the odometer. He's also has a Original GT500KR along with a few other toys. Man I wish I had his wallet.

I've got a friend with a lot of different types of vettes survivors and others restored. I have always really liked his callaway twin turbo. His brother in law's zr1 is pretty cool tho.

Why would someone buy a car and then stick it in the garage and never take it out?

Nope, special eddition vettes did in '96. Like the GS, special eddition silver Vette and others. Actually, now that I think of it, I think all 6-speed/hard top cars in 96 had LT4s. I do know only ZR1s had LT5s.

Elburn sucks. I walk on needles going through there. ALWAYS a cop looking to get someone. Can't imagine living in that town with a hot car.

No kidding... A few years back a good number of the force were fired for one reason or another but they all just went a few miles down the road to Sugar Grove. A few of them are nice as I know their families, but one is a complete ***. He's the only one who gives me tickets when he pulls me over, and he's the one that arrested me that one time. Gave me a ticket on Christmas for no front plate... Bah.
