ICM campaign stars
So the Marines finally posted a maradmin on how they are going to award the campaign stars. Its 229/08. Its confusing as ****. I'm not even going to go to admin and try and get them its that confusing. If I didnt get the GWOTEM the first time it would be simple but I give up on trying to figure out what I rate.

for the army it seems fairly simple if you were deployed these dates you wear them....but my only question is i was there for like 4 dates how many do i wear lol. I am pretty sure its one but you never know

Its not rocket science fella's...if you have overlapping periods, you get more stars.
For Afghanistan:
Liberation of Afghanistan - Sept. 11 to Nov. 30, 2001
Consolidation I - Dec. 1, 2001 to Sept. 30, 2006
Consolidation II - Oct. 1, 2006, until a date to be determined.
For Iraq:
Liberation of Iraq - March 19 to May 1, 2003
Transition of Iraq - May 2, 2003 to June 28, 2004
Iraqi Governance - June 29, 2004 to Dec. 15, 2005
National Resolution - Dec. 16, 2005, until a date to be determined.

Yes you can fit four stars on a ribbon. Remember only one per award period, so if you deployed in 06 and 07 to Iraq, you only get the one star (National Resolution). So, if you served in all periods in Iraq, you can only get 4 stars max.

maradmin 299/08 it says:
6. MARINES WHO QUALIFIED FOR THE GLOBAL WAR ON TERRORISM
EXPEDITIONARY MEDAL (GWOTEM) FOR DEPLOYMENTS TO EITHER THE
AFGHANISTAN OR IRAQ AREA OF ELIGIBILITY (AOE) PRIOR TO 1 MAY 2005
MAY STILL ELECT TO RECEIVE EITHER THE ACM OR ICM IN LIEU OF THE
GWOTEM PER ARTICLE 420.14 OF REF C. THOSE CAMPAIGN PHASES IN WHICH
THE MARINE PARTICIPATED DURING THAT DEPLOYMENT WILL BE USED TO
DETERMINE AUTHORIZED CAMPAIGN STARS FOR THE ACM OR ICM. HOWEVER, IF
A MARINE ELECTED TO RETAIN THE GWOTEM FOR A DEPLOYMENT WITHIN EITHER
AOE PRIOR TO 1 MAY 2005, THAT DEPLOYMENT PERIOD WILL NOT BE USED TO
DETERMINE CAMPAIGN STARS FOR A SUBSEQUENT ACM OR ICM AWARDED.
ADDITIONALLY, THE DESIGNATION OF CAMPAIGN PHASES FOR THE ACM OR ICM
DOES NOT MODIFY THE CURRENT POLICY THAT A MARINE IS NOT AUTHORIZED
BOTH THE GWOTEM AND ACM/ICM FOR THE SAME DEPLOYMENT PERIOD.

that medal is optional, you either wear the gwot or the gwotem which was only awarded for certain periods of time if i am correct. So since i was there for 3 of the periods i can wear those 3 correct?

If you got the GWOTEM, you didnt get the ICM for that deployment so you dont rate stars. I went OIF II from aug 2004 to mar 2005 and OIF 6 something mar to oct 2007 so I only rate 1 star. I didnt get the ICM until I went back the 2nd time. I dont know how the army/airforce works it. I think its kind of stupid that I went twice and get one and someone could have went twice and rated 3. If you went to OIF 1 and 2 you would rate 4 for 2 pumps.

Well we dont get the Army times at the PX, but I have seen some stupid *** Marines and Doc's doing the same in MarineTimes. This one doc forged his own bronze star (might have been a higher medal) citation and turned it into his admin at the hospital and they ended up having this big presentation ceremony and ****. Needless to say someone figured him out. How stupid can you be?
