Default Selecting a cam

I have a 2000 Camaro SS M6. I want a cam swap but i am not sure what i need. I want a mild cam with a powerful exhaust note. I also want to retain near stock drivability while gaining serious power. I perfer not to have a cam thats too radical and results in increased maintenence.

Right now my car is completly stock with the exception of exhaust and cold air intake. I also want a cam that does not cost a lot and is compatible with most heads on the market since this is my next upgrade i have planned down the road.

Any suggestions are welcome. i wouild also love to hear some information on how long i should expect a cam swap to take, how expensive it is and how complicated it is.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

I will tell ya, that drivability is all in the tune. I would suggest running a cam in the mid 230 duration range honestly.

+1 on Patrick G, he is the man w/ cams, but also +1000 on tuning. Even a small cam cam be stupidly undriveable if the tune sucks, but my cam is pretty decent sized and it drives great because the tune is awesome..

The Texas Speed Torquer v.2 and v.3 camshafts are great camshafts with good drivability from what I've been told. A local guy put the v.2 on his bolt on 02 Z28 and put down roughly 34rwh w/ a tune. Very streetable cam. On a side note I noticed you don't have headers...I wouldn't waste the money on a cam swap until you get some LT's. Just my .2

You need more bolt ons (like headers) before go about sticking a cam in it.

check this thread out. mid range size cam, stock heads, ls6 and made some pretty good numbers. with a fast and some good heads, this would be pretty damn sick.

Don't bother getting a cam unless you have LT's. Can't beat Pacesetters for the money. I prefer them over the QTP headers on my Camaro. It would be best to get the headers and cam at the same time. Buying some new heads or getting some headwork done will also maximize your gains.

Also if you're wanting a big power gain think about saving up for a aftermarket clutch. The stock one may not last long with a cam swap.
