Default Texas Speed Headers on a 2002 z28

I want to start things out by mentioning this is my first ls1 f body. The car is an '02 with 87K original miles. It's back home in VA and I'm in FL with the Navy so I can't even drive it yet (one more month though thank God) So, I was thinking about buying the texas speed headers, offroad y pipe and o2 extensions. First, does anyone have any reviews? The price seems like it's a great deal for polished SS. I just need to know about bypassing the AIR (is it true these cars don't have EGR?). Will these headers hurt my mpg? How much hp should I expect to gain? Will I be able to drive it for a while without the tune? Any and all help would greatly be appreciated.

They are great headers - your car has no egr, so go with the race style headers. Also, you should be able to gain 20rwhp I would think - don't quote me, but it depends on your supporting mods and tune. So they outcome will vary some. You won't hurt the car by driving without a tune but you won't get the best you can out of that bolt on without it. Anything else?

Oh, and for air I just disconnected the air hoses (rubber) and the pump (driver side under the air dam is easiest to remove)

so you would just disconnect the air hoses for now? After I put the headers on can I send the pcm and get the AIR tuned out and put a tune in for the headers as well? I'm still kinda new to all of this, thanks for your help. I'm used to my Vette haha no emissions whatsoever lol.

how long do you think for the header install? I'm pretty mechanically inclined and how long for the pump removal? does getting rid of the pump hurt my mpgs?

if first time doing headers i would give your self a good day this includes removing the air, the air is only for the cats for initial cold start since your using off road pipe dont have to worry about it youll need to plug your lid and plug vacuum line no it wont hurt gas milage

Hah allright! I'm definitely gonna order those headers then

Well I'm gonna order the headers and install them once I get back home. Do you think it will hurt the car if I drive it like 3 miles down the road to have the y pipe welded up?

You'll be fine - and yes, you can get a tune after or while your doing the mods. Air is simple to remove just follow the lines and pull em off. Some cheap vacuum caps and something to block lid hole where air hose was - some use tape - I used a plastic cap grommet - fit perfect.

Thanks guys for all your help. Do you know where I can send my PCM to to get it tuned? is it worth buying the DIY tuning kit?

I highly recommend FROST on this site. Check him out - http://www.tunedbyfrost.com/ Either him or a dyno - although he does both. lol

With your mods - I would do a mail order tune for 150. - that is worth it PLUS he gives you 90 days if you wanna tune again for free (you just pay shipping) so if you wanted to add anything else like ported throttle body, gears, etc. Great deal man!

His turn around time is fast. Last time I sent mine it was only 3 days - well worth it.

Matter of fact mine is going out tomorrow to him for another tune - lol

Well, my next question is where is the PCM and how do you remove it? I couldn't find a sticky with that info... Help anyone?

I'm stationed in Pensacola Florida for "Parachute Rigger" A School.
