1999 ss cooling fan problems
Any one else have problems with the cooling fans not comming on. I can make both of them come on when the AC is turned on but during normal opperation nothing. I have had overheating problems in the past and have taken it to the dealer three times with nothing. I installed a water temp gauge (sender located in the block drain plug behind the starter), and watched the temp reach 230 (dash gauge still reads 210) with neither fan comming on. I have replaced the factory temp sending unit with no apparent change. I can't figure it out and am considering installing an aftermarket temperature switch and rigging the fans off this switch. Any help would be very apperaicated.

The computer controls the temp at which the cooling fans kick on, they are set very high from the factory. I've never had the cooling fans kick on either. I cant recall the exact temp they are set at, but bring it to a speed shop with LS1 edit, they can reset your cooling fan temps...or get the manual fan switch.

... slp fan switch, overpriced....
I like the one i built, no splicing, and a nice NX style switch panel, no drilling like the slp switch.

Thanks for the info
Thanks for the info. The problem with the fan switch is that fact that the car is my wifes (cool eh) and she doesn't want to have to worry about remembering to turn on the fans with a switch. Probably going to have to reset the factory settings with a computer reprogrammer.
Thanks

computer programming is the best way.
On mine, i have a relay, so i can leave it on low speed, and it turns off when i turn the car off This way, i can leave it on if i want, and can't forget to turn it off.
the high speed one is all the time, so i can run that with the keys out.

I can verify that 228 is fan lo speed turn on as well. A simple fix would be to tap into the dark blue (both fans on hi lo discrete) coming from the PCM. This signal is a ground to the relay banks which turns both fans on hi. Just simply tie in a wire at the PCM by a solder joint and run the wire into the car. Connect the other end of the switch to ground and you can turn both on hi whenever you want to. This will not affect the PCM's normal operation of the fans. It's just simply a parallel method of of controlling the circuit.
