What the heck did I just buy?
Hey all... I just picked up a motor from some kid on CL (claimed to be a 2006). I know its a 5.3 aluminum block, but im not sure of too much more. My question is ... how can I find out what it really is? Is there a way to read the PCM (blue/green connectors with the numbers 2715 P25799) to get engine specifics like VIN and model, mileage etc? If so, can i just hook it to a PC with some type of adapter? Externally, I know that it has 799 casting heads, and thats about it. Oh and did I mention that the entire wiring harness is cut into 30 pieces... uggh. lastly, I remember reading somewhere that they had diferent electric connections on the back side behind the intake... that might be a clue for someone with way more knowledge than I. Here are some pics
Thanks!

yep exactly that... the deal was just too good to pass up. I knew it was a 5.3 and aluminum. I know its one of 3 or 4 engines, but there has to be a way to see which one exactly. I still think there has to be someone with the knowledge out there that can just look at it and say... coils are round, bla bla connecter in the x location, thing-a-majig is grey... its an LH6 or LC9.
Meanwhile, does anyone know if I can read data from the PCM? and How?

Woot! I paid $500. That's why I didn't sweat the details. Although the kid I bought it from really had no info on the motor other than he said it was from a rolled 4x truck with 28k miles.
I still want to get into the PCM. How can I interface with it without a wiring harness? Does someone sell a connector that hooks to a pc to read data that I can buy. Or is someone in the local SoCal area that owns one that can help out?

After reading about a thousand posts and doing some poking around on the engine, I discovered I have knock sensors in the valley under the intake... based on what I read, that leads me to believe this motor is an L33. Can anyone confirm that to be a good assumption?
