Default GTP vs WS6??

hello. new guy here. been readin up on this site for a lil bit. awesome site! my current car (99 GrandAm GT coupe) is paid off in a lil over a year. well so far my choice on cars is 2000+ WS6, or 2000+ GrandPrix GTP coupe. i know the WS6 is faster(obviously), but i recently test drove one(GTP), and i love the interior! heads up display, excellent build quality(at least compared to my grand am lol). and it drove great and is pretty quick, with potential. but on the other hand, the WS6 is kinda a dream car for me. i would LOVE to own one. love the looks. and there's just something about a nice american v8 and its exhaust i love! never drove one though. but the main concern is insurance. its actually cheaper with the GTP. havent checked for WS6. im 22, will be 23 by time new car time comes around. how much insurance do u all pay that is in my age group??

In my case the insurance rates for my 2000 GTP and my 2000 SS are comparable, but that may be a function of my insurance company. If there's any way you can get the WS6 I would recommend that path.

WS6 all the way. More power, and easier to get more power. Plus I myself hate all FWD cars. Just my $.02
Another idea is, get a C5. When the C6's come out the C5 will drop their value. They have HUD (heads up display) and the insurance is cheaper for Vette's.

BTW- Welcome to LS1TECH!

Peace,
Craig.

So you've never driven a WS6? Once you do, that GTP will be a distant, distant memory.

BTW I'm 22 and pay ~$900 every 6 mos. for insurance on my car.

I own both.

I like my T/A better but the GTP has it's uses. I cannot haul my family around in the T/A with anywhere near the convenience of my GTP.

The GTP can be made as quick as your average LS1 Firebird w/bolt ons (12 sec 1/4) but it's gonna cost money and reliability.

The insurance on my 97 GTP was around $65 a month while the insurance on the 98 Formula I had before it was $99 a month.

Do you want to drive the meanest looking machine on the streets, that roars intimidation, fear, and attitude? Or would you prefer to drive a family sedan that is a mid-high 14's car with limited mod potential? HUD or not, I think you know the answer to this one. Do the right thing.

Get the WS6. You said it was your dream machine. You'll regret it if you don't

I own a 01 Z28 and a 97 Bonneville and my insurance is around $180 a month for both. When I bought the Z my insurance only went up $20 a month going from a Dodge Stratus. Most insurance companies will give you a discount for more than one car.

Get the WS6!

I have a 99 Z28 and an 04 Comp G GTP. I like both cars fordifferent reasons. The Z is a toy. the GTP is an every day car. The GTPis a great ride on long trips and for hauling people. The Z is fun to drive beyond the GTP.

I guess I'll answer your question with a question. What do YOU want to do with the car?

I know a guy with thousands of dollars in his GTP and even a rebuilt transmission (the stock one can't handle it) and his best et is 13.6.

LOL

GTP's are junk. You will spend more money on repairs than the difference in insurance. My friend has one he bought new in 2000 when I got my SS. He has replaced the tranny 2 times, brakes 4 times in 40K, a head gasket ($4,000 @ dealership)and other small crap.

i am suprised only one person said this....

dont take ANY of our advise on which car to by....(we are biased)
but DRIVE the ws6 before you make up your mind....

i would be dumb struck if after driving the ws6 you could even remember the name of the ....what was that other car again?

GTP would be alot more enjoyable if
you could get a manual. What's your
priority. If #1 is performance/fun to drive
its a no brainer. But there are drawbacks.
We just live with them cause the pros greatly
outweigh the cons. If your worried about
number of people it can fit, MPG or things
like that you might be better off going the other
way. A test drive isn't going to settle it. You have
to consider that if this is going to be your daily
driver, how will you be using it.

Hmmm... $4000 for a head gasket, huh? What's that - about 50hrs worth of labor?

I don't think the GTP is crap at all. IMO its a very decent family hauler and the 3.8L is a very reliable engine. Not really a good comparison to a WS6, though, since its really intended to serve a much different purpose.
