Cam/Converter First???
Aight i have a 2001 formula a4 with lid, cutout, and soon to be flowtech longtubes. I was wondering which would be more benificial and noticable since both would cost me about the same with installation, a cam kit (on stock heads), or a vig 3200 shift kit and cooler. Which would give me the better et, ive heard that the stall is good for like .5 and im not sure about the cam. Oh, i was thinking about like a thunderracing 224/224 cam.

With the wrong converter you will spend a lot of
time, outside the cam's powerband. You want to
select them as a combo, even if you are going to
do them separately. I would do the converter first.
I would do the cooler yourself even if you're not
willing to tackle the converter job.

You will defineatly want to do the converter first. Without a looser converter, the cam would be much less fun to drive. You will most likely have to raise the idle with the new cam which will have it constantly trying to push through lights and such with a stock converter, plus you will more difficulty getting the motor to idle with out trying to die with a stock converter.

Get the converter first. Trust me. I asked this exact same question awhile ago, the first thing I wanted to do when I got this car three years ago was make it LOPE like a **** I LOVE that sound. And look where I am now Have to get exhaust/converter first to do it 'right'. A Vig3200 is a very good choice, it does stall higher than that (??3600-3800??). I probably would have one myself, but I just couldn't pass up the much cheaper (big diff to my budget, anyway ) and still VERY good SSF3500.
Side note: I don't think my 3500 stall is too big for the street with 3.23's.....or even CLOSE.

I dont have my new tires yet ( was gonna order nittos ). So how badly is the new converter gonna rape the tires that are on there now (stock rubber) before i can get the new tires... Will it do nothing but spin?

You will, what's the saying people use on here....blow the **** out of stock tires with a converter. I still havn't got my nittos to hook from a stop on the street, even when warm. The other day I rolled into it slowly, then floored it when I was going about ten mph (was still in first gear) and the rear of the car still slid slightly sideways.
