Default Firebird Formula and trans am

What is the difference between a firebird formula and a trans am? I know that the rear end looks different with the spoiler and all, but is there something else different about the back end? They both came with LS1s, was there any differences in them mechanically? Any suspension differences, anything on the front of the car different? It seems that the firebird formulas are a little bit cheaper and i'm trying to figure out why.

Hmmm, well there are no lil lip kits or ground effects, back bumper, front fog lights, wheels, spolier...think of it this way, look at a 6cyl chassis, that is what a formula is...

front end. fog lights. T/A theyre in the middle...formula...theyre lateral to the running lights. youll see what i mean. besides that...no...not really...a formula mechanically is the same car.

The TA has front brake cooling ducts the Formula does not have. I believe they're actually pretty functional if I'm not mistaken... That and what Swang said are about it.

Oh yeah? My Formula has 'em and I don't believe they're functional. Besides the different spoiler and the location of the fog lamps, the other major difference is that the T/A's came fully loaded with T-tops, leather, etc. standard, while the Formula could be had in strippo versions with fixed roof, cloth, etc.

I always had a feeling they weren't functional

Some people seem to think they are, though.

On a formula, where are they? The TA has them where the Formula has foglights and DRL's, right?

I think he was talking about the ones just behind the front wheels?... I dont like the formula rear ends, I am thinking about swapping a Trans Am hatch onto mine if I can get my hands on a decent one...

Yep, I was talking about those behind the wheels on the fender ... as for the slots on the outer edges of the front end on the T/A, are there lights or reflectors in there, or are they open? There would have to be slits in the inner fender as well to route air from there to the brakes, right?

* There is no mechanical difference between the 4th gen Formula and T/A.
* The only difference is the nose, rear bumper, side skirts and hatch.
* Just about everything else was available as an option on the Formula.

V-6 body style, Trans Am power. You gotta love that stealth. There have been a few times when people have mistaken my car for V-6.

the formula did not have a convertable option. the weight difference would be in the lack of options, and maybe the body pieces are lighter on the formula.

The weight difference is the options, but I dont think it adds up to that much. maybe 100lbs less (200lbs might be a stretch) for a base no-option hard-top Formula.

Best part / difference with a Formula...

No need to loose your fog lights when you put a FMIC in!

The Formula could be had as a convertible. The Formula weighs in at roughly 3450 lbs whereas the TA is 1-200 lbs heavier and the convertible TA bringing up the rear at almost 3800 lbs. All of this information is in the FAQ, BTW.
