Thumbs up Good A4 Setup For A Daily Driver?

Picking up a 01 SS A4 on Saturday and its going to be my daily driver.

I already have an M6 GTO that is NOT very street friendly and I want this car to be very street friendly. My goals when the car is all done is Low 12's or High 11's. Needs to be reliable, have good manners, and decent gas mileage. Needs to pass California Emission, So no long tubes will keep stock manifolds and cats. Also not interested in N20.

Car already has SLP Lid & Magnaflow Catback.

Additional mods in this order when first getting the car,

B&M 29K Tanny Cooler
Yank SS3600 Stall
Nitto Drag Radials
UMI or BMR Adjustable Lower Control Arms
UMI or BMR Lower Control Arm Relocation Brackets
UMI or BMR Sub Frame Connectors
UMI or BMR Adjustable Torque Arm
SLP Y Pipe (Too Replace Flat Stock Y Pipe)
Tuned Via HP Tuners

After sometime,

Take off/budget 243 heads
TR224 cam on 114 LSA
Pushrods & Double Springs
160' Thermostat
LS2 Timing Chain
Underdrive Pulley
Retune

Thats it for mods, after that it's saving for a future tranny rebuild.

Will this net me a consistent high 11-low 12 car?

Taking my needs/concerns into mind are there any suggestions or changes you have to make this a better setup?

Any input is appreciated.

It should be in that range but you will need to change the headers to some shorty's or mids cause the stock manifolds are gonna choke that setup

I don't think shorty's will make much more power over the revised 00-02 stock manifolds especially on an N/A Motor. Take for example the Cheatr cam or TR224, they make great power on the stock manifolds.

Needs to pass emissions, no Turbo kit has a CARB number I believe.

If your goal is to have a good DD, keep the mods simple, do all the bolt ons and maybe a cam. You will have a low 12 second car. I have similar goals for my 00 WS6 A4. I already have a modified 93 T/A M6 that is not the best car to have in traffic on a daily basis.

can you have shorty headers in cali?

Or why not just slap a procharger on there, and not get into the engine. I have seen the p1sc go pretty cheap lately, and it would be reliable/fun.

Prochargers are also 50 state leagal.

Any header with CARB numbers is legal in CA, which would only include shorties. And I'm not sure if all shorty manufacturers have actually spent the money to get CARB certified. I know that JBAs are legal in CA.

Does Procharger/ATI have CARB numbers on their basic P1SC kit? I've never noticed myself. Good idea though, a P1SC on a stock car should still make well over 400rwhp.

The P1SC is CARB Legal in Cali, My only reserve about the ProCharger is the need to spend alot of time in the higher RPMs to get some boost/power. From what I've seen the high rpm shifts are going to kill A4 Transmissions easily.

Cali smog laws are rediculous. I'd say just try to register it somewhere else and do whatever you want to the car, thats my plan when I go to cali in a year.

This higher shifts will kill the tranny in the upper RPM's, but doens't mean you have to take it there everytime you take the car out. I would just not get into the gas too hard untill you had enough for the tranny.

also if you get the 8 rib set up you could take it down for emmision testing then up the boost some for some more performance. Just a thought.

I think the Procharger would be kinda overkill for my goals and it looks like the car would take a big hit in reliability with the transmission being shifted at higher rpm.

If this was an M6 I would agree the Procharger is the way to go.

Any other idea's or improvements?
