Default Going to take out the cats

Okay I have decided to gut the cats. I am taking it to a shop this weekend. What do I tell them to do? Do they need to replace the cats with another pipe or just cutting them? I want it to be the loudest possible.

How much did it cost about

Im assuming you mean you want your cats insides ripped out, leaving them hollow inside.

dont gut your cats, no garuntee that the sound you will get, will actually sound "nice" i know you want loud, but theres "nice" loud and theyres "sounds like ur cars dying" sound.

if you can, just remove the cats and put a "delete pipes" instead.

A normal shop will not remove the cats, nor will they gut them. Since it is illegal and I believe the fine is around $10,000 they probably will tell you now. But if you have enough time you could gut them yourself for free. Some people might tell you its useless in a performance view but it will increase the sound.

agreed. usually shops wont do it, unless youre really cool with them. the guy that did mine told me not to tell anyone he did it. not only will it sound a lot better, you're going to get a good bump in HP. i even got better MPG.

you could get yourself an off road y pipe and just swap it out. it only takes a few bolts and some knuckle blood. that way you still have your cats if you need them.

edit: just read your sig. the ORY will sound great with your flowmaster set-up but, how much louder can you get than a 3in. cutout?

Yup, no shop will do it unless you know one of them personally.

You better know somebody at the shop or you are gonna have a hell of a time finding a place to do it.

you just gotta find the right place to do it...the price is basically up to the shop to determine...best bet would to be paying to get lt's and ory

i was thinking the same thing about the cutout... if you are looking for a more agressive tone, headers and an ORY sound to be like the best bet for you... although it is pricey, it is totally worth it in the end
that is def. gonna be my next mod for sure

also, if you are close to indiana, which not sure where you are from, but if you are in indiana i know a shop that does it... i know the owner very well too so i could get ya a good deal

I dont mean to steal your thread, but i think this applies... do you generally need a tune after removing the cats?

Maybe, the rear o2's may throw a code since there is nothing in the cat anymore.I have heard every car is different, some throw some dont. But if you can get a tune cheap and whatnot then....Why not?

No. I mean, you could, but that would be like getting a tune after installing a lid.

Well a little different, most people would get a tune to get rid of the SES light.

going this route might put your car at some down time but if you remove the cats and the insides are still intact you can make some money off of them. I took the cats off of my 02 Z and took them to the local scrap yard and they gave me 160 bucks for them. Now the Y pipe for your car is about 210 bucks and you already have 160. so your out 50 bucks. Or you could paruse the for sale section and find you a steal of a deal on some long tubes and a y pipe for your car like I did. I was out a total of 125 bucks for my long tubes and Y pipe bolth pacesetter after taking my cats to the scrap yard. But I did have something else to drive while my car was down waiting on the parts

hey watsup man, i know u wanted to hear the sound of the gutted cats and flowmaster, i took a video with my camera and now i cannot find the damm cable to send it to my computer! if i were you i would gut the gats yourself, much easier because you have an 01, all you have to do is unbolt both of them and take out the internals! i had to cut the top of my passenger side cat and empty it, then i had to weld it on! if its possible for you do it!! the flowmaster will not give it any rasp and it wont be too loud it will be perfect!! and i got wayy better MPG i also got my o2's deleted from the shop, even tho i dident throw a code!
