Default stock clutch w/ nitrous

I am considering putting my car on the giggle gas and I was wondering how long your stock clutch lasted after you started spraying. Please post how many miles are on your clutch, how much you sprayed, and any thing else you think would help me out.

TIA,
Aaron

Never, the stock clutch will never last on nitrous. Unless you are running bald street tires that have no grip, the stock clutch will die very soon after you start spraying!

Mine started slipping before I started spraying so mine is getting replaced very soon. In fact the new one is on my kitchen table. The old one really doesn't hold now.

Only been spraying for a month or so and I need a new one. 80k on the stock one and it slips off the line at the track and the freakin' slave is shot (not coming back up). What are everyone's recomendations for a new one? Spec 3? I don't want something too hard to push in.

5 liter, go with spec.

i had a few thousand miles on a replacement stock clutch several years ago and i hit it with 175 wet shot a bunch of times on a drag radial..it held up but wouldn't have for very long if i'd kept it up

The z06 clutch will hold up for a bit if the drill mod is performed. I wouldn't bank on it but you can get by with it.

went through a few clutches, the stocker will last a long time if you hit it after 2nd gear, on an easy 1st gear launch and a good 2nd gear bang the stocker will say bye bye, launch hard in 1st and it will go bye bye even quicker......... also doing a burnout shifting till you get to 4th gear will hurt the clutch..hehehe

Which stock one though? A stock 98-00 won't last long ( I went though 1 fast). But the Z06 (Which is rated for more HP and higher clamping force) seems to hold up for me well. And yes, no 4000rpm clutch dumps on ET streets, common sense there.

I do have the upgraded hydrolics and the drill mod though. Been though 2 bottles on my 100 shot (400rwhp) and hasn't slipped yet. I don't really do a 1st gear hit though. My Cartek clutch didn't hold up past 10k miles with the juice, I don't expect it to last long, I just don't beat it as hard as I did with the cartek.

WTF?!?! I can’t believe these clutches wear out that fast! Only a few bottles and they're done? Now I’m considering AGAINST nitrous

Just get the spec III, My stock one was slipping worse than I thought. After putting my new one in I am chirping 4th on the street with some pretty sticky tires. And that is without spraying! This thing will hold up to quite a bit of spray.

nitrous turns out to be a much more of an expensive investment after you figure in a kit ~ $500, various switchs, remote bottle openers, guages, lines, safety equipment, purge kit (optional) tank warmers etc, and now if you have an M6 basically you need to get a spec III clutch along with it! turns out to be very expensive...

That's true, however done right it's still the best bang for the buck, and if everything is working great and you hit that switch for the first time that day, all that money and time doesn't matter when you are grinning from ear to ear.

but these guys are saying after a bottle or two the clutch is slipping. but then again, now that i think of it, technically for those spraying seconds the car has 100 - 200 more horespower at the wheels.

how much is a decent stage 3 clutch and who makes it? can they handle nitrous for extended periods of time?

I put 440 rwhp / 560 rwtq through my stock 2002 clutch ( 7 - 8 15# bottles ) and it still lives. It started to slip on me in 4th on the spray once pretty good but I layed off for a bit and it seems alright. Will it die . . . yes . . . will it die right away . . . probably not just dont "slip it " take it easy on the shifts and let it fully engage.

Just keep the money in the bank for a new one to be safe

For me it lasted about a month. It never slipped, just broke. I had it replaced under warranty and it lasted about a month then broke. Lost my warranty, replaced with stock (lack of funds) lasted about 3 months (not spraying, fighting warranty issue) started to spary again and it lasted about a month and then broke. The ring around the springs on the disk shattered everytime.

I replaced it with a cartech and I've been spraying for about a year on it and has been great. Just went to the track last weekend and was lauching at 4500-5000 and it would bog the car down, so I dont think it was slipping.
