Default Pinging...Help

I have a '98 A4 with 3.73.......My car has started pinging at wot.....normally thru 2nd gear between 5-6k rpm.....I know on older cars you can back down the timing and most of the time it will fix the problem.......I have no idea what I can check on my car? What is causing it? It never pinged untill about a month ago.....I thought I got bad gas or something but the problem is still there....It does feel like timing is being pulled out of the car ( because it seems slow) What is most likely the problem? I was thinking about spraying it.........but not with the pinging.........Help! Thanks

Have u scanned your car to see if its throwing or has thrown any codes? could be a number of different things. How many miles are on your car? and do u still have the factory plats in it?

No......I was under the impression I would get a ses light if a code was thrown but now that you mention it I guess that is not the case......I will try to scan it this weekend. What do you mean by factory plats?

Sounds as if a full data logging sesion and tune are in order. We can speculate all day, but just do the diagnostics and you'll find your problem.

To tell you the truth......they may be factory plugs.......I bought the car used and never had a reason to check them.....I knew I was gonna put headers on the car and I would change them I that time. tr55's are going in this weekend. Maybe I will get lucky and that will fix the problem.
