Bumping timing up 2.5 degrees
Is it safe to bump the timing up 2.5 degrees on my 03 Z06 with 93 octane? There is a Sunoco station not far from where I live that sells 260 GT 100 octane (oxygenated, unleaded). http://www.racegas.com/fuel/17 I am looking to lower my ETs as much as possible. I am dragging the car this weekend. Can it be done with straight 93 pump or should I run half 100 half 93 in the tank?
Your basic stock LS6 with a Vara Ram & power duct, high flow cats, X pipe & B&B bullets
I am embarrassed to say I am using a Crane Cams tuner because it was given to me from a friend and that is what I am using to add timing. The tune is also on the “High performance stock cam”

I have been done some searching here for the last two hours. Pretty much what I came up with was the question I asked. A higher octane is beneficial when adding more timing and using the higher octane makes it safer? I just want to see if my research is correct. I know its hard to tell without the numbers. I am just using this tuner that was given to me and supplied all the info I could.

Well would the knock retard not take the timing away if it was too much? Hopefully someone with more experience can confirm that.
Also going with a higher octane may cause you to lose power if you dont have the timing high enough. Honestly I wouldnt worry with it since you cant get it dialed for sure before you go.

If adding timing induces knock then the sensors will pull timing till it clears up. It is still possible to have more timing than is necessary without reading kr though. If your making hits at the track make a couple passes with it where it's at and then a couple with the added timing. If the car picks up then you know if its worth it or not
