Default 98 to 99-02 PCM

Hello everyone I have a 98 z28 that I will be modding fairly heavily. I know that it is possible to tune the 98 PCM, however with the long term goals of the car I feel the need to upgrade the PCM. I have a couple of questions:

Is it beneficial to buy a 99-01 harness vs. simply re-pinning the entire 98 harness?
Does anyone offer a conversion harness plug and play?

I have search and all I find is old threads and info. Didn't know if there is anything new in this swap that would make it easier?

easier to re-pin your harness, but apparently there are issues with the cluster to overcome

If you are looking to swap to a 99-01 0411 PCM there are quite a few companies out there that make harness for those. Re-pinning the factory harness can be a pain unless you have the patience to go through the diagrams.

Ive used PSI Conversion for an LS swap and it installed quickly and has a very clean look.

Here's my repin...it was a nightmare. Looking back...it wasn't that bad, just frustrating.

That doesnt look fun, I have re-pinned a bunch of 98 harnesses but always done them out of the car. That looks like a back killer.

Looking back...I should have just pulled it out of the car. I just didn't feel like pulling it. If the cowl was still there I would have definitely pulled it.

I repinned my 98 harness was out of the car. There is a site that has step by step on what pin to move from one connector to the 99+ connector. I lucked up and have a buddy who had a lot of old truck harness that I got two connectors off of and used them. The site I used also tells which wires to eliminate as well. The only problem I have is the fuel gauge which trying to decide on having the PCM tuned for the 98 sender or just put the tank from my 00 parts car I have in it.

I have repined and modified a lot of harnesses. I always take it out of the car, bring my favorite chair, a small table and a six pack. It's much easier for my back to take the time to unplug it and take it out of the car so I can comfortably work on it.
