good info. my drivers side was stuck in the up position. hit the switch a few times, and it would finally go back down. not hearing any grinding or noise, but it doesn't always want to pop up and now when it does, it's SUBSTANTIALLY slower than the passenger side. doesn't look like it's getting hung up on anything. i'm gonna start checking for corrosion in the next couple of days though. sound like a juice problem to the motor? bad gear? anyone...anyone?? been away from the site for a while, but now i'm back!

Thanks for the kick but details! It took me about 15 minutes to fix my buzzing driver side light with the 180 trick (btw its a 10mm nut to help the next guy do it in 13 minutes ;^)
Thanks a bunch!
Now on to my slave cylinder (and probably rebuild my tranny)... this winter.

For some reason I hear alot of the connections for the headlights get corrored very easily, mine are corroded inside i try and put some dielectric grease in there, but will still get screwed up. Thats why i wish i had a camaro sometimes just so i dont have to deal with all the pain my t/a headlights give me.

Headlight motor gears
Does anyone know where its possible to get a Nylon stock replacement gear for the headlight motor. I know the brass ones can be boughten online, but I would like to try a nylon one again. I have the typical play between the motor and the plastic housing so I think thats what cuased the gear to strip.
The local stealership wants to sell the whole motor assembly only. Cannot get just the gear from them......

i was wondering the same thing. also when i try to use the **** to manually raise and lower the headlight, it dont work. it just feels real loose and kinda snaps or pops then i have to turn it some more and it'll get a lil resistance in it. when it pops loose the light dont even come up or down when i turn em on. this is on my drivers side light of a 97 trans am by the way

What I did once with 88 GTA I use to own, I pulled the motors to inpects the gears, I noticed it was not the teeth of the gear worn, but the center where the motor joins the nylon gear to make them spin, As time wore them in it basically grined away the locking parts of the gear causeing the motor to slip; making the Headlights fall. What I did was blow out all the powder from the grinding and then JB welded the motors to the old gears and worked like a charm, Just make sure you do nice and neat. i am not sure how fourth gen motors are, but My GTA was a winter car and I didnt want to put much money into it, and I hated the lights sticking up all the time. And also Before you do it make sure the Motors are both set in the down position , and when assembled the Lights start off in the down position

uhh. first off i have problems and its with both lights. while they are in the down position you can lift them up about 2 inches or so but they dont stay up. yet they work right but when i am driving they seem to bounce a little. any advice for getting them to where they are like locked down. the way it sounds is the middle part where the motor connects to the gear kinda bowtied and allows a little play. any fix for this
