Holy moly I can't believe what a PITA it is to remove the intake on my LS1. I have an auto trans and had to remove the fuel injection to get at the rear pass intake bolt... Now I have to deal with that connector on the back of the manifold! Can anyone that's done it tell me how far forward can I safely move the intake without screwing something up?! For gods sake I need to lose weight just to reach to the oil pressure sender. Can't get a grip on anything back there and now.. Any advice appreciated - thanks!

you can take the front 4 bolts completely out.. the back four bolts wont come out all the way and you need to hold them up to slide the intake forward (zipties work well)


once you are able to slide the intake forward, reach your hand around the drivers backside and lift the vacuum booster hose over the OPSU so you dont crack it off,, once thats out of the way slide it off some more and then on the passenger side unhook the small vacuum line and the connector for the map sensor..

then you can slide it off and out of the engine bay. (assuming you have the fuel lines disconnected)

edit: you can leave the throttle body on, just disconnect the sensors and the tube running to the valve cover

I can take my manifold off in about 15 minutes

Thanks for the quick reply. How far do you think can I move the manifold forward before I have to worry about breaking the oil pressure sensor? I can't get my hand back there at all and it looks like I have to move it at least 3 inches to get in there but I don't want to break anything.

couple inches..

if it makes you feel better you can just disconnect the hose at the brake booster and then work it over the OSPU

Or just break it and get a new sensor since yours probably needs replacing anyway.

I went for the second choice and broke it considering I couldn't get my hand behind it whatsoever. Too bad GM didn't make it out of metal. I noticed plenty of oil in the intake and may look into the pcv mod - I appreciate the guidance.

Did I take enough metal off for the LS6 pcv conversion? Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with an LS6 block!

Absolutely phenomenal writeup!!! I can't thank you enough because I had to take my intake manifold off twice chasing down some Secondary Air injection codes; used your writeup both times and made the job so much easier.

For anyone having trouble with the back bolts here's what I did - for $13 I bought the "Pittsburgh Flex Head Stubby Ratchet set, 3 piece" from Harbor Freight - the 1/4 in ratchet fits fairly easily allowing you to remove the bolts. This was after 3 days of jamming my fingers and dropping wrenches.

i got tremendous help in here and it was a huge PITA to do. Since I finished the LS6 pcv mod, had to replace the drivers side window motor and some other small things by getting advice from the forum. Nothing but good people here to help out!

thank you! I’ve been so busy I’m sure we all are - I go from one thing to the next and life just happens. This girl runs better than my grand national used to when that thing had a bigger turbo Kiger Chip and a nice cat back exhaust with a test pipe.
