Default nozzle shootout

with all this recent talk about who's nozzle is better, i'll put this out and see who responds. IMO, i think we can agree that i can create a fair test platform. and be unbiased in it. so, i'll put up my 00 formula and my time to do this shootout. one car, one dyno, one day. here's the last test i did http://www.stealthram.com/nxnytrex.htm

i'll make a list of nozzles and see who wants to add to it. we'll discuss parameters.

cold fusion - have this nozzle
dynotune - have this nozzle
nx - have shark nozzle, vortech, and 1 SHO total of three
ny-trex - have this nozzle
tnt - have this nozzle

860 performance to lend a window switch have this part

any company want to put up??? i'll even buy the nozzle just like i did with the nx nozzle. ricky did make the statement that if i didn't like his nozzle i could return it for refund. if i like the nozzle, i'll be keeping it if i paid for it. if you send it for free, i'll send it back once the testing is done. 383LQ4SS is in my neighborhood. if he wants to help referee, by all means stop in.

ok who's game???

860 performance - monetary donation 2/26/06
383LQ4SS - monetary donation 2/26/06
CAT3 - monetary donation 2/26/06
robert56 - monetary donation 3/14/06

Seems fair to me.

From what I've seen from your posts in the past you say it like it is, and document what you do pretty thoughly.

I'm down, and would even help contribute to the cost. In the name of science!

While I think it would be very cool to see the results, you are wasting your time. Even if you were able to get all of the nitrous companies to agree, once the results come out, there will be nothing but whining. Was it matched to this, blah blah blah, what kind of solenoid, blah blah blah, who's jets, blah blah, blah, what bottle, etc. You know no one will agree, there will be tons of excuses, and a 5+ page thread full of arguements will exist, as usual.

Just like before I am game. Tests are tests, and since you already have 1 nozzle great. I would like to add 2 to the list. 1 vortec, and 1 SHO. Let me know.....

I do not think there will be any crying publicly, no need, you show air/fuels and as AL has said in the past thats where changes come from,,, just like in the last test We were a tad leaner and made more power... This is going to be sweet, I am betting it wil go well past 5 pages......

So whats the parameters?

that's why i put this thread up. to stop the constant crying between manufacturers. either you believe in your product or you don't. plain and simple.

we can start here with the parameters. if someone wants to add/change, let's hear from you.

Test parameters
ENGINE TEMP = 185*
Runs were in 3rd gear 65 mph
Torque converter unlocked
Wideband O2 in passenger front O2 location before cat
Bottle pressure 1050 psi

car for testing:
2000 pontiac formula
auto
3.73 gears
yank 3400 converter
SLP airlid
k/n filter
bassani tru-dual exhaust
tires - 26 x 10.50 - 15 mickey thompson ET Streets on factory 16 x 8 wheels. tire pressure 24 psi.
will use stock tune

if we are wanting to weigh before/after runs, i may need some extra bottles. i have three now. i will use the current ny-trex kit i have now with the large .125 orifice n2o noid. this kit uses the nx jets. keep the same .062/.033 jets. we can do runs where the a/f ratio is the same. so jet changes might be in order. i'm up for both types of runs. simple nozzle only and then match a/f ratio.

Your proabably right about that.

But look at it this way, you will have good information available to you and you will be able to draw your own conclusions. Its near imposible to eliminate every variable but I'm sure MRR23 will do his best and at describe what he did or did not do. Some people might challange it, but whatever, it will still be a very good data point for everyone to have.
Thats why I'm for it, and to me its worth some $ for that info, thats why I offered some up.

That is assuming this test actually includes A/F, RPMs instead of MPH, and a standard start RPM for all nozzles to eliminate any 750-1000RPM advantage for any particlular nozzle , test it on the same car, etc.

Do you have a window switch on the car? If not, let me know.

the graphs will be in rpms. just like the last time. 65 mph = 3200 rpms ish.

no i do not. that would make it way more accurate for a starting point. instead of maybe being 100-200 rpms different starting. i could also get vinci's tranny tricker. this will let me select any gear i want and will not downshift. that way, i can start at say 2500 rpms in 3rd gear without it downshifting.

imo I'd suggest dropping the compucar nozzle and include a dynotune nozzle.

if dynotune wants to send me one, have at it. the compucar nozzle is one i've had for about 4 years now. it's a real basic design. might shed some light on how well the 'technology' of nozzle design has come. seeing as 383LQ4SS brought up the why not use nozzles from the 70s things.

if vendors don't want to donate their product, then if someone that has one on the list wants to send it to me, please do so. if not, i guess i'll have to buy them myself. either way, this will get done. rather the vendors step in and stick up for their product. but, whatever it takes.

the only thing I would like to see added would be some type of controller like maybe the FJO unit or another time based controller with an rpm switch that can start the spray at a specific RPM and hold it on for a set time accurately. Not progressive. That way you could also weigh th bottle in between runs. All nozzles could be run the exact same time lenght and that would enable you to measure flow.

I suppose we could leave the bottle out of the car and on the scale for these tests. That way you can purge and then record the start weight...spray at 3000 rpm for the set time...and then record weight again.

I will ask RevX about the possibility of dyno testing there. But I was just by there a few hours ago and they are slammed as usual.
