Just for reference.

Chevy 305 -- 3.736 bore and 3.48 stroke

Chevy 327 -- 4.00 bore and 3.25 stroke

I don't know if its safe to bore a 305 to a 4 inch bore. Maybe someone will chime in. I would guess your better off getting a 350 block.

personally i'd put a small cam in that thing and convert over to a megasquirt. or if you do get that kit you can throw everything but the pistons in a 350 down the road. you're gonna need to at least get it so that you can tune the ECU in that thing, and the megasquirt is about as much money as prom burning software and being able to just flash the computer would be way easier than changing proms all the time

That is a waste of money to do anything with a 305, I agree with the others to buy a 350 and if you want, build a stroker motor.

i'm running into the same problem. The bore in the 305 just can't be punched enough. That's why i'm putting in a 350

To answer the question, yes, but you will need to tune the ECM.

I have to agree, even if you kept the 350 as a stock 350 or 355, you'll be bigger and far cheaper than the 305.

Hell you can pick up an old 70s 4 bolt and 383 rotating assembly for ~2k and be rocking 60-80+cid over nearly the same money in a 305.

Plus did they make 305s with roller cams? More saved money there if you want to go roller and you get a roller era block.

They did make 305 roller blocks.

.

As mentioned, it's a terrible platform. I know guys do it all the time,
but it's just a waste of money to do anything with those pieces of junk.

i see no good reason to do a stroked 305. even with class racing where a 305 is the limit, you can't use a larger stroke than stock so it's irrelevant for those situations.

if you're stuck on running a 305 for some strange reason, spend the money you'd spend on the more cubes and put it into the valvetrain and cylinder heads. even garbage can work well with a good set of cylinder heads.

Unless you boost it, don't bother.

even boosted, the extra cubes wouldn't help much, if any at all. too many issues with valve-shrouding...

That's not a big deal with boost. Mod motors seem to work just fine with bores that small, even the 2V engines.
