Default What car to get for a BBC.

Like the says I would like to know what vehicle should I look for where I have to do the least mods to accoodate the BBC. I might pickup a 454BB from a buddy of mine for $350.00 from pan to heads I would like to make it a slow project maybe throw the Edelbrock Performer RPM package and a 200 shot of squeeze for a street cruiser. Any opinions on a cruiser or the motor and thoughts for it.

Well, the easiest would be a car that was originally optioned with a BBC (A, B, F, X and Y bodies - also trucks if you're interested in that). The next easiest would be a car where a BBC was optional, but not original to that specific car (some things may need to be changed depending on the platform, like heater box, etc.). Next would be any RWD mid-to-full sized GM platform.

Of course, this does not take into account other things that might be of concern to you; like price range, size, seating & trunk space, etc.

Well, it is not hard to swap one into a 82-92 camaro/firebird, they make headers for it and is a pretty direct swap, not only do i like these cars, i also can tell yuo they are easy to find and cheap. So, if budget is n mind, that would be a great option.

Otherwise, a OE BBC car like mentioned above is the easier solution for stabbing a BB in a car.

G bodies are also a good platform for a big block, they're almost identical to A bodies but they're slightly smaller and lighter and some of the parts are even interchangable and like a third gen a big block is almost a direct bolt in. They are also cheap and plentiful and parts for them are readily available, and I happen to think they're really cool. 74-81 F bodies are cheap sometimes too and are very easy to get big blocks into since the 70-72 cars came with them, which also takes a lot of the guessing out of getting parts for the swap.

El Camino, some came equipped with the 454 from factory. Plus you have a bed to haul other car parts.

An El Camino would be badass since my uncle has a 64 just sitting in his yard that would be badass to fix. The only thing is I've fixed an 86 and is not the best vehicle to race in since you have the trection problems but it is all ways bad to cruise something that old and have alot of heads turn can you a imagine a yellow el camino with all new shiny chrome. and a BBC in it.

If you go for a bbc in an el camino you can find the many accessories in elcaminostore to make it look stock.

A 454bbc 67 was going to be my first project but the guy wanted too much for a $4k swiss cheese example of an el camino

G and F bodies are great candidates for swapping in a BBC, that would be a great car with a BBC in it.

How about a 98-02 Fbody, and use the factory computer.

The Gen 6 BBC from 1996-2000 "vortec" 454 engines, uses a 24X crankshaft reluctor wheel, it also uses a cam sensor that looks like a distributor. Otherwise you can use 8.1 timing cover that has cam/crank sensors in the cover, people have repinned and installed crank/cam sensors connectors to LS1 harness.

EFI Connection has made a 58x custom crank reluctor also 4 reluctor cam sensor and ran a BBC with a E38 LS3 computer, with a DBW 58mm LT1 throttle body. Lot of potential.
