Question Alpine Type R Sub?

Was wondering if anyone used this sub in their set-up? I have a $150 gift card to best-buy and was wanting to buy my sub from there if at all possible. Here are the specs

I love it, it hits hard for a small 10" sub!

One of the best subs that has been on the market. I have a 12" type R that is in a 2.5cf box tuned to 27hz.. with only 400 watts it was an animal.. Would take double that power with ease as well.

woaaah....no comment on that first statement.

You can definitely do better with 150. But if you got a bestbuy giftcard thats about the best u can do.

For the money they are and have been proven to be one of the better options out there.

From what has been said on this board by people with impressive amounts of knowledge, a few subs for that $150 budget have performed better: TC sounds Epic 10", RE SE10, RE SSD10. Do a search in this forum if you want the best quality sub for the price range of $150. If you are hell bent on buying your sub at best buy for $150 though, the Type R is the best. I would buy a sub elsewhere and spend that gift card on anything else you may possibly want from best buy though.

I agree with KipMaslonka. I would get the Type R somewhere else. About a month ago, I was looking into buying a 10" Type R for my MTX stealthbox, and I found them on Ebay and Amazon brand new for about $110 shipped.

The only reason I didn't get one was because a friend of mine gave me a used 10 SW610 the older version.

If I remember correctly, there are three different types of 10" Type R subs. If you haven't already, see which one will fit you best.
Type R SWR-1042D
Type R SWR-1043D
Type R SWR-1022D
Type R SWR-1023D

Here's a 1042 for $111 shipped.

Also, try amazon, they also have killer deals there.

I would seriously look at either the RE SE or TC Sounds Epic subs over this one. For $40-$50 more than that ebay Type R, people on these forums have made it sound like the difference between night and day in terms of sound quality. The highest quality subs seem to be either the FI Q or MMATS subs (~$210) to give you an idea

Call me crazy, but I've never had any issues with Alpine's.

I've got an older setup, including a 10" Type-R, and for a 10" Sub it hits hard.

In my '95 Wrangler, I had 6.5" Pods Driver and Passenger side, Dual 6"x9" Speaker bar, and the 10" in a Ported Box sitting behind the passenger seat. The entire system was Type-R's and wasn't too expensive, but sounded great. Not only that, but these things held up to the weather: Rain, Snow, Salt, Sand. Dirty or Clean, they sounded great and have held up almost 7 years and have taken QUITE a beating.

However, since I'm in the market, I'm most likely switching to the CDT system for the Camaro. Seems pretty nice, but kinda pricey. Hopefully they sound better than the Alpines.

Thanks for the new information fellas. I'll look into these subs. Really loved my JL. It was about 12 years old though and it's time came up.

Yea epic 10s fit in a stealth box. IIRC they require a pretty small volume sealed

Hell if your going that route lets not forget MMATS Pro Audio, Massive Audio, CDT, RE Audio (already mentioned although I like there old ones better), JBL Power Series, and so many others there are just to many. Gotta put Fi in there as well for a top contender.
Alpine Type-R is a fine sub and does well. There is no question. The problem is that alot of people have never heard of the companies that make superior product because they are not at Best Buys and other box stores. Even alot of car audio shops won't carry them because the cheap stuff sells better to the masses.
Alpine Type-R will do just fine and provide good bass, especially from the trunk of an F-Body but it is by no means the "best" subwoofer made. If your using a gift card then I say buy it and run with it since someone else is paying for it or part of it. It will be fine and do exactly what you want it to.
