Default 1999 Camaro Monsoon Vs 2000 WS6 Monsoon

My 1999 Camaro SS Monsoon absolutely sucks compared to the 2000 Ws6 Monsoon I used to have. My old WS6's factory Monsoon absolutely DESTROYED the Camaro's system. I keep seeing all these posts saying the systems are the same except for the actual number of speakers. There is a CLEAR difference between the 500 watt Pontiac system and the 200 watt pre-2000 Chevy system in the camaro. My Trans Am sounded like I had a decent subwoofer box in the back and my Camaro sounds like my winter beater buick skylark.

They have the same amount of power. Only the power RATING changed, not the actual power output.

You might have blown speakers or perhaps a previous owner had replaced them?

Get yourself a real subwoofer in the hatch, else get you some Peerless SLS 6.5s.

dragonrage is correct - the two versions have the same output, they were just rated differently. Not to mention that the 500W rating is an ILS rating (If Lightning Strikes).

There were, however, differences in power distribution between the Camaro and Firebird versions. Both were eight channel amps but Firebirds powered all the tweeters off the head unit leaving extra channels from the amp to run dual voice coil subs in the sail panels. Each sub in a Firebird has two amp channels thus twice the power. That doesn't mean twice the volume (doubling the power only increases volume by about 3dB) but it does make a difference that you can hear.

The difference was HUGE! I bought my SS brand new and I just replaced the speakers with GM brand new ones and it still sounds NOTHING like my old WS6. My WS6 had all original speakers too.

No exaggeration...pepople thought my WS6 had a sub box in there. My SS is weak as ****! I think my 1998 Z28 non-monsoon has more bass then the SS.

I kinda agree with you, I own a 2000 ws6 and a 2001 SS and the sound system in the WS6 sounds much better. But if your that concerned about it then just go aftermarket.

Unfortunately that won't work. The speakers aren't much different in sound but they are wired completely differently and the Monsoon amp is different between Camaro and Firebird - the Firebird amp runs two channels to each of the DVC sail panel subs.

There was absolutely no reason put additional subs into the WS6...but the 1999 is just plain garbage. They are like night and day, the difference isn't just minimal, its HUGE!
