Default 05 CTS-V vs 08 G8 GT

Last weekend i raced a mostly stock g8 gt
we raced 4 or 5 times with the same result.
g8 mods exhaust no cats and a dyno tune A6 310hp.
V mods muffler delete and tune M6 no dyno numbers.

from a 40 roll we were side by side no body pulled dead even!
25 roll i pulled half a car down low but thats it side by side the rest of the race.
I really expected to pull him.. but overall a damn close race.
Im getting rid of my cats and replacing the resonator with an x pipe maybe that will give me the power i need to pull him.

The G8's dyno-tune numbers seem pretty low for those mods

Anyway, good runs and good kill on the roll. Try LT's, ORX, and a new catback exhaust and see what happens

The tune really wakes the GTs up. They put down some pathetic numbers bone stock because of all the computer "aids" holding them back. Sounds just about like it should, with similar weights making similar power.

The G8 is no slouch with a tune and an intake. It was driving a totally different car after I added those mods. Plus the stock trans tune is lame, so the tune also makes the A6 shift so much better too. Add some headers, remove the DOD and add a nice cam, and it really unleashes the power since it has LS3 style high flow heads.

Agreed, G8 dyno number seems low for those mods. Nice run.

im suprised you didnt pull up top as well, grab some long tubes and leave the exhaust the way it is.

I'm going to the exhaust shop this weekend to get the cats taken out and a x pipe put in.
I will update and let you know the results. I think the cats are really holding me back.
I cant afford headers at the moment so this is my cheap way out.

If you remove the cats you'll need to retune the motor to take advantage of the added exhaust flow. Plus you need to have the code removed for the O2 sensors or you'll get a check engine light.

Good race! My money would have been on the CTS-V all day, but what are you gonna do.

There is no 1:1 gear either.

I dynoed mine in 3rd because it would have hit the stock speed limiter in 4th.

Didn't know that. Learn something new everyday. Thanks.

Hey Screamin: what is your MPG? I'm looking for a daily driver and always loved the G8's. If I got it I'd just keep it to CAI, Tune, LT's, and ported intake. All the things that should free up power without hurting fuel economy.

That's because you have the stock tune, an aftermarket tune turns the G8 into a totally different car. The 1.152 ratio in 4th means it will pull harder than if it was a 1:1 ratio, which makes the car quicker. So it's helping the car, not a handicapping it.

I'm getting 15mpg but I do mostly city driving. Plus I have AFM disabled since it's so annoying.
