Default umi k-member install problems

I'm having a problem with their road race k-member that I just bought. I got it installed in the car, but the motor mounts are not lining up correctly. The passenger side I got lined up and bolted in, but the gusset on the rear of the k-member mount is hitting the motor mount clamshell. I am sure it will vibrate like crazy if I don't fix it. The driver side I can't even get the bolt in because the gussets are hitting the clamshell.

Has anybody else had this problem? possible solutions? I am super pissed at this point because you pay top dollar for the "best" parts and now I am going to waste hours of my labor pulling this crap back out of the car. I haven't contacted umi yet because it is the weekend, so I'm not trying to bash. Just trying to see if this is a common problem or not. Thanks

Ryan

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Can you send a pic of the offending area to ramey@umiperformance.com. Not a common problem at all...

ill send you a picture in a few minutes. I gotta go take some. It appears by the pictures on your site that the gussets dont even belong there. Maybe someone got overly creative with the fabrication.

Here are the pics of the gussets on the mounts. I think they probably shouldn't be there.

are you using stock GM motor mounts ?if so consider a poly motor mount conversion.

Yes, stock mounts. Don't the poly mounts go into the stock clamshells? I have them on my other camaro, but forgot how they went in

you do reuse the stock clam shell.you could file on the clam shell where it touches the k-member.the stock inner mounts give more ,allowing the clam shell to touch the k-member.

Thanks for the suggestion. I would need to grind the driver side a ton, cause the bolt isn't even close to going in. The passenger side, I think grinding could work. I know their solid mounts would work. I just really wasn't looking to put them in until the built motor goes in.

The biggest problem is that I already spent a few hours on this k-member fixing the steering rack mounts and welding on a mount for the madman steering rack. So it isn't even like I could return it anyway now. Hopefully umi will come up with a good idea here.

I just want to say that the customer service is top notch from umi. Ramey has been helping me try to find the problem. While we don't have it figured out yet, it isn't from lack of effort. I feel 100% confident that we will get it sorted out.

That is one thing that we talked about. But I want to find out what the problem is first. And then decide how to handle it. If it is a problem with my mounts then it should be on me to fix it. If it is something with the k-member, then I don't think it should be. How do you like the solids? how bad do they transmit the vibrations?

I love the solids! The poly/stock clamshell combo is pretty damn close to a solid anyways, so I thought might as well. I had a T-Rex cam in the car at the time I installed those, so there was a lot of vibe while the car idled, cleared up as soon RPMS came up and/or started driving. I have since put in an a smaller futral F13, hardly any vibe at idle now.

In the camaro..I believe it is actually a UMI K, non-road race K-member. However not 100% on that.

Yeah this car is driving me nuts. I haven't bought 1 part yet that I can just bolt on. Everything needs modified somehow. Waiting on some angle measurements from umi. But pretty sure I know what the problem is

This is bullshit! Umi tells me they changed designs years ago and all there k-members have gussets on the motor mounts and yours doesn't. How old is it?
