Talking UMI Releases New Product- Bolt-in Rear Coil Over Kit for the 82-02 GM F-Body

Bolt-in Rear Coilover Kit for 1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird
P/N 2046 priced at $659.99/set

UMI Performance, Inc is proud to introduce our P/N 2046 GM F-body bolt-in rear coilover kit. This kit allows installation of a true 2-1/2” dia racing coilover spring and double rod end performance shock. It allows the user to accomplish ride height, easy spring rate changes, and damping adjustment on the 3rd and 4th Gen F-body rear. An innovative, TIG welded lower bracket holds the shock in double shear and works with standard axle mounts as well as with most common relocation brackets (spacers included). Drilling two 3/8” holes is required (no welding). The teardrop shaped upper mount is also double shear and features a straight pull design for optimum performance. The 2046 kit provides ride height adjustment as well as 19 compression and 19 rebound adjustment positions on the Viking shock. The Viking springs are available in 12” 150lb/in for handling, 14” 125lb/in for general use and 14” 110lb/in for street/strip. All UMI components are 100% manufactured in Philipsburg, PA-USA.

In the product description, it says you are required to drill two 3/8" holes...can you specify on that a little more?

Up above in post #2 you can see the lower mount. There is an insurance bolt peeking out. This is the 3/8-16 fastener which requires drilling into the axle bracket. We use the 3/8-16 as the lower bracket carries the entire rear suspension. We drilled ours with a small battery powered drill and a 3/8 bit so it's no big deal.

Here is one picture of one of our house cars owned by Jerry. This car is lowered 2" on front and rear coilovers.

Do you know if the lower part of the shocks/mounts will clear offset (to the inside) lower control arms? Hard to tell from the pictures but it looks pretty close.

That's excellent - placing the stress of the coilover on the spring perch is exactly the right thing to do. Also makes comparing the 150lbs rear springs the same as any other 150lbs rear springs.

Do you guys have a link for the front and rear Viking coilover package? And with the 550/150 combo, that's a known good combo for handling.

Very tempting, even with the Koni sale now back.

We have tested this set up with UMI control arms that are 1.500" diameter tubing. The factory arms are similar in width and should clear. Most adjustable control arms use 1.250" tubing which is more clearance, companies using 1.750" tubing should clear but could be close or rub.

We have also confirmed this kit to clear the UMI 22mm rear sway bar and our 32mm drag bar. As the suspension loads the sway bar clearance is increased.

I hope that helps,
Ryan

We don't have a link yet for that kit, but we can sell the complete kit for $1,159.99 plus $9.99 shipping. The bearing kits would be $27.99 each (you need two, recommended) and the spanner wrench would be $19.99.

Let me know if interested and we are glad to help.

Thanks!

do these transmit additional noise over the factory setup? and would you weld the top support plate to the body or is the single bolt all that holds it together.

Thanks

The factory spring has a rubber isolator up top as well as a "soft" shock absorber. GM engineers spend a million hours isolating NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness). With that being said, we are eliminating both of those things. We replace the squishy whisper quiet ride with crisp performance. Since everyone's idea of NVH is different, I'm going to say there is a slight increase in noise.

You can weld the top support plate but we don't require it. The single 1/2-13 fastener up top is larger than the 3/8-24 all the companies use on the hybrid coil kits for Chevelle fronts and a 550 lb spring. With the upper bracket, two folds of unibody and a large flat washer you should be good to go.
