Default I bought a 1981 turbo trans am from a dealer that has a re vin!!!!

I paid alot of money for a car that was supposed to be a 81 turbo trans am, but is a complete 80 turbo model. I did not know the difference from 80/81 models.

It was a consignment car on a dealership. I bought the car in Minneapolis and had it shipped to Houston Tx 1200 miles away. I called owner of dealer and he said he did not have any clue. It was his rich best friends car. Its so obvious it been retagged, Non GM rivets, scratches around rivets plus car is in full 80 trim.

He said to return the car, I eat shipping both ways and he will give me a refund!!

So i have to eat 3500 in shipping?? paid $7500.00 for car.

Should he be the 1 to be worried. Or am I the 1 that will never see my money again??

Depends. Did the dealership handle any of the transaction aside from just advertising it on their website? Did they create the contract between the buyer/seller? Can you get a copy of the consignment contract between them and the seller? Does one exist?

Misrepresentation is a big deal, especially when you're taking about a VIN rebadge. Depending on how the contracts above were written, the dealership my be completely indemnified - in-which case you'd have to pursue the seller in a civil suit.

I think the first step is to gather the data I mentioned, and make damn sure that you can verify these claims. You need to be 100% sure that it's been retagged. Next step is to contact the attorney general's office in MN and inform them of the situation if they're not willing to make this right. I guess my biggest concern is if you're in possession of stolen property.

If his dealership sold you an illegally re-vin'ed car and you have paperwork, you don't owe a cent for shipping. In fact, if he wants to remain in business, he should be bribing you 6 digits not to report him. And, he has to come to you for court, always fun for someone out of state. I would suggest getting a lawyer on him, making him worry and going for every cent you can.

Yep, I would verify the re-VIN and then call the DA here locally. Inter-state fraud is a federal offense and you should not be inconvenienced or out any money at all.

You might be right on this. I'm not sure who's jurisdiction would handle something like this. I would think it would be wherever the crime was committed, but I'm not totally sure about that. I would probably call your local Texas DA and ask for advice, and see if this is something they could help liaison for you.

Anything that involves multiple states is going to be a pain in the butt. But like I sad before, you need to go get an official VIN verification done so they can cross-reference all of the VIN markings on the vehicle before you go any further. I'm not really well versed on this Gen otherwise I could tell you where they are, but there should be several markings all over the body and frame.

He jurisdiction falls under where the report/claim was made.. I'll tell you from 1st hand that Texas doesn't mess around when it comes to inter-state fraud claims, not to mention if its been retagged with the vin plate that'll be interesting. But as said before, gather as much paper work or documents as possible as present it to a DA or attorney..

Criminally he probably doesn't have a thing to worry about but some lawyer fees which he is probably used to being a car dealer. I believe intent would have to be proved and since he is a dealer he will easily get away claiming ignorance kind of like a pawn shop gets away with purchasing from crack heads. Civil monetary claims will be left up to a judge. When the gavel descends the bullshit ends.

I'm curious if you got your money back or if you still have the car?

He got his money back for the car, but he had to pay to have it shipped back to the seller. Which I think is BS, but whatever...

You should have trashed the car before sending it back. Make sure that pos doesn't try to screw anyone else. Maybe post the dealer's info so we can harrass them.
