Default Can Someone Recommend a Decent Floor Jack?

I have been in need of a decent floor jack for a while, so while at Sears yesterday I picked up the one in the link below. After getting home and reading its reviews, I fear I have made a mistake. I plan to take this floor jack back, which will once again leave me in need of one...

Can anyone recommend something decent for around 100 bucks? I don't want the compact 40 dollar jack, as I have had that in the past and it sucks. But I don't want to spend 400 bucks either...

I got a nice 3000lb aluminum jack from harbor freight.

It's real nice, and it's low saddle height actually fits under my lowered *** car, lol. They also have a 4000lb just like it. You'll probably get more responces in the tools section though.

I have been using my harbor freight jack for 3 years now without a problem. Have had to bleed it a few times, but that is it. It works fine and picked it up for about $70 iirc.

Edit: Here is the one I have been using...looks like $57 now.

Well what are you using it for? Is for around the garage or to carry in the car? Craftsman makes a floor jack that comes with jack stands for around a hundred bucks. I've had mine for about 7 years and have never had any problems with it. I've never had to service it in any way. I think it has a 3 ton capacity and it seems pretty heavy duty.

I have the Sears one you posted and have had it for several years with NO problems. It comes down to how you use it. Use it wrong like anything and it will break.

Keeping it in the garage, and using it for tire rotations and such. I use ramps for oil changes, so don't even need it for that.

I used it today with no problems.. I guess I will hold on to it, and see how it goes.. I am wondering if the reviews on there site all came from one user who was pissed off enough to post multiple times??

It was great when I first got it. Then it leaked pretty bad. I didn't abuse it. I have seen a couple of the all aluminum ones have the same issues.

I really liked it at first. Wish it would have lasted a little longer.

There was a thread just like this one not 3 days ago. Look down a couple posts. Omega makes a nice low profile jack. I run the sears aluminum jack too, which I've yet to have trouble with.

I spent a few weeks shopping for my floor jack and I decided to buy a 3 Ton jack made by Ranger (RFJ-3T). I bought the jack from asedeals.com for $162.00 shipped.

Although this might be beyond your price range I really think it is a good value. The craftsman jacks could certanly last, however I think the features and build quality of the Ranger jack are better. Additionally my jack slips right under the K-member of my third gen which I measured to be 4.5" above the ground.

Considering a good jack will last as long as hand tools I really do not think ~$200 dollars is too much to spend if it makes you happy.

Very cool! I am liking those jacks, and given it's a good bit better quality, I could see spending the extra dime to get one..

Thanks!

Just an fyi, looks like after a year my jack craftsman jack might be "seaping" a bit...

tire rotations, oil changes, and a tranny swap.

Oh yeah lifted up a few pocorn machines with it too(maybe 800-1,500 lbs.

does the craftsman jack carry the warranty like the hand tools? and is it low clearance. ill look into the harbor freight one was well. my roomate has a heavy duty floor jack, but its to tall, and i been using the pos that came with the car as my old jack died years ago. i just want to make sure it will clear the entire bottom of the car.

its a 94 t/a got jackstands already.

and where do you guys jack up the rear of the car, im afraid to put a hole or crush something.

Anybody have experience with the brand Torrin. I have seen there jacks at a couple of places around town and they look really decent, but seem to good to be true, cause they are really reasonable in price.
Anybody own one???
