Default Help with first build.

Well, i've had this LS1 for a year now and im finally getting ready to build it. It was a complete LONG bock with 40k miles with all the acc. I stripped it down to a short block. I bought some 243's. My goal is to build 450HP to the rear wheels. The engine is a 2001-2002 LS1 from a SS Camaro. I want to drive this around town and cross country. I plan on taking a trip on Route 66 end to end. Opinions are very welcome on how to achieve my 450HP to the rear wheels. I want a nice cruiser and a cam that wont beat me down with idle or lope.

Stock LS1
243's
Vic jr and 750HP carb
custom 1-3/4' headers
700R

Talk to Ryne at CMS...he has put together more than a few combo's that will satisfy your goals.

The biggest horsepower factor in your build will be your cam selection. I would get a custom grind.

More realistic would be around 400 to the wheels to help driveability if ur taking it across the country. U might also want to state what trans/rear u have.

^ he mentioned it is a 700r

It all depends on what you think is drivable, some guys daily drive cars with 240 duration cams and think they are fine. Some people think a 224 is too big to daily drive.

Odds are you will end up with a cam that is in the low 230's with a tight lsa like 114 and i am not sure if you will hit 450 to the wheels.

Thanks for the replies guys, I was told a 228R or a 113lsa might do it?
rearend is a build 12 bolt, no worries there. How do these stock Z06 Vettes get 505 hp and very drivable?

I understand cubs, but don't the Z06 run 243's?, older vettes? I will do a slight port and polish on the heads.

the 405hp zo6 used 243's, and you will need a hell of a lot more then a slight port and polish to get near 450 to the wheels through an auto with a mild cam.

Ya the c5z06 with 243s made 405 at the crank, so to makin 45 more than that plus the difference at the wheels will be a hard thing to do. The ls7 on the other hand makes ur 505 hp at the crank but its a 427 with a bitchin top end.

So with a 600" lift cam, 10.5 comp, port and polish, headers,Vic jr, 750HP carb it wont make 500hp at the crank?

Maybe? Its about a 13-15% drive train loss through a manual...even more through an auto. You'll need more compression, a really agressive/kinda peaky cam and Better heads.450 is what guys shoot for with a 6spd with afr 205's or stage 3 LS6 heads with aggressive 230+ cams.
