Default Ms3 vs. Trex

So all you know I've been wanting to do a cam on my SS for the longest time.
I originally wanted to do a Ms3. There's a few guys who have them and I still want it,but feel like I kinda want o set my self apart a lil.So I've been looking into a trex cam. I know they are both big cams. Import slayer has a trex cam and he hasn't had any issues with it. he was daily driving his t/a and said it was fine.anyways I want to know what you guys think. I want a cam only car for now, because I cant afford to do heads for the moment.

here's a trex cam

I would consider getting a Futral Motorsports F13, supposed to have lots of useable power, if you want more they have a F14. Check it out.

I have heard a lot of good things about that cam. I would consider it if I was doing a cam swap.

Install went great, new fuel pump is in and working fine.

i cant really decide between the 2 of them. either one is gonna make good power. what about the ms4 though? or maybe a g5X series cam? are you gonna have a good tuner?

It seems like you are the type of person that wants to go big. i know how you feel. i upgraded from a 220/224 .530/.534 112 lsa to a 228/236 .588/.601 114 lsa. im still not satisfied, mainly because not only did i want more power but i wanted it to chop a whole lot more but my dumbass went with a 114lsa. Its weird they sound exactly the same. I hate it!!!! end of rant lol.

What gears do you have? Any one of those cams with 4.10's or 4.30's will make the car a beast with the right tune, exhaust, intake and etc...

Take a look at this post of where each cam made power and where each cam levels off.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/982895-ls1-camshaft-engine-dyno-comparision.html

May not have the exact cam your looking at it but its some food for thought...

well id hate to be the one to say it but what the hell.

luis, if your picking your cam based soley on sound, you are picking it for the wrong reason, hell they could grind you a cam that sounds good, but makes no useable power or torque.

my vote is for the torquer 3 or ms4, either one may require fly cutting thou.

a cam doesnt sound a certain way then another, it's all in where you set the idle and the tuning.

Pick the newest grind that you can. for ex MS4 > MS3. Trex is the undipsuted most powerful cam for cam only though. Dont get hung up how they sound or who sells them, look at which cam makes more torque/hp.

trex is going to trump all, thats proven. If you dont mind going big, go for it man. With the right gears you will kill with that cam!

Trex>ms3 in terms of both power and torque on average. but both are going being real rough below 1500 rpm, i would definitlely consider a speed density tune with those camshafts

Hey L, stay away from those huge cams, rough idle, car surges, etc, why do you think people are selling those cams, if ur wanting tobe a super racer than go for a large cam, a milder cam will give you the same power with the right combo, it all depends WHAT UR LOOKING TO DO!!!, cams are very subjective, whats ur objective, etc, its no secret, what i have (some people like to keep there setups a secret thats there chose). my cam spec's 228/232/.595/.595/112+2, with 853's heads, with basic bolt on's, of course i installed 100 shot of Nawzz, Ran a 7.30 1/8 (R/T could be better)......i haven't ran the 1/8 without the juice which i will be doing here shortly....i'll let you know......anywho thats my .o3.......G/L............som4ever!!!

If you get the car tuned right, you can run a fairly big cam with no problems.
Will, Derek, and Moe all have pretty big cams and they run great!! Thanks to CMS!!!
